Topic: So many speakers.... What should i Choose? - Page: 1

I am looking for some speakers and i am not sure what i should get. I am looking to spend around $1000 +/-. I am interested in the JBL Een G2's.
But i am not sure...

What do you all recommend?


BTW:
These will be used for mobile djing for things like prom, homecomming, birthday parties and weddings.

Mackie SRM350Z.....good for groups of around 100 people..and tight at nails sound quality....

To be honest the JBL Eons sound like ass. THey are overpriced for what you get. If you must get molded enclousers believe it or not these sound much better. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-BEH-B415DSP-LIST

I can second the recommendation for the B52 matrix system. I own one of them; I'm throughly happy with it.
 
The Behringer Eurolive Speakers i like. I like the Begringer brand too. But the B52 matrix system on the other hand i do not like. And that could be because i do not like speakers below 12". I do like how it comes with a sub though, and the behringers would need one.

DJ Marcel: How does the B52 system sound? Is it loud?

And the one other things about molded enclosure. I do not mind moulded or wood. I just like the molded because it is lighter and seems more durable. I could be wrong on that though.

They are very good and you wont pay the middleman price like buying from places like sam ash, guitar center, I dj now, Top Dj gear or musicians friend. They sell directly to the public so its cheaper in price

They are actually VERY loud.They POUND.

I have done a couple of hotel ballrooms with nothing more that these sound systems. (delta hotel double ballrooms with 500 guests)
This is they're upper limit though. I would have liked a couple of zone speakers to take the edge off the main system.

I even did a reception in a small aircraft hanger Converted to a reception hall that seats 600-800. It was actually louder in there that the dead hotel ballroom. That's because of the exposed concrete making the sound bounce all over the place.

I like them.
 
Whatever you buy, don't buy JBL. Sound quality generally sucks. :)
 
I think this is another of those personal preference things.
I would suggest that you try out some of the speakers in your price/size ranged by renting or borrowing if you can. Then decide what works best for you.
Its great to get advice from the forum on what other people prefer/use. It helps to get some idea of whats available but ultimately we are not buying them you are and soud quality is a very personal and subjective thing.
Be carfull about buying based on the (they suck man!) or (these are the bestest thing ever ever) kind of advice but do pay attention to peoples experiences of actual ownership from a relyability and cost point of view.

The biggest decider should be based on what YOU like the sound of. No-one can listen for you.

DAZMAX is pretty much right... but what sounds great to your ear in one room may sound like crap in another and vise versa. In todays tough selling market if you pay $200 from any company you'll get your $200 bucks worth. They all sound and are constructed very similar in each price range, the difference being, the more you pay the better they get(in normal instances). Just like anything in life.... I use to own an audio shop in Montreal back in the day when the big box stores were not around and I had a sound listening room that I spent a lot of money to get built to make even my low end speakers sound great. Later I tore it down as I had many complaints that the speakers didn't sound as good when the clients took them home. Many refunds... I suggest buy what you can afford but make sure you get the best warranty possible, even look into extended warranty service. Behringer has great pricing for their products but are the worst when it comes to service and spare parts. Buying from someone who offers warranty service in-house is probably you best option.

Do you have help to move around you matrix B52 i was looking at them but dam the subwoofer is heavy ,i have to carry it up and down 3 flight of stars every time....would be a back breaker..

Nope no help. The entire system only weighs 175 lbs. I can move that with effort but still by myself
 
i own B-52s 1000v2 and with a blown tweeter it still kicks ass...
 
If you ask dj's wich speaker is the best, every dj comes with another name.
Therefore I only can say what kind of speakers I have.

These are all active. The advantage is that is easily connected and you don't need more equipment.

Why I choosed these speakers:

Tested a bunch of speakers for karaoke/singing, rock and dance.
These speakers have a good high, mid and low. Lot of speakers are good in low but missing a bit in mid and high.
It's a personal taste but I get a lot of compliments from other dj's about the good sound.

I got the Matrix 2000 this thing is a monster. Highly Recommended!
Also, I had a question about the system and the president of the company emailed me, he also included his direct phone number in case i had any problems or any other questions. Pretty Impressive
 
just buy them all ......i'm not real practical sometimes for ex. , just last week i bought a really good map ... it says " one inch = one inch " so it's tough to fold .......

Caliente123 : These look like some very impressive speakers. But they are really cheap. How has the support been for these speakers? Have you been able to get ahold of spare parts when needed? And do you use a active or passive model and why?


And whats the real difference between 2 way speakers and 3 way speakers. How do the compare in sound clarity and loudness.
 
I don't own a pair of these but I played on them at a medium sized lounge in D.C.

There were only 2 of them, no subs, just these 2 beat up, dirty, scratched up, dented grill Yamaha MSR 400's mounted on speaker stands that could not even be raised over the crowds heads. I mean the speakers looked like they were in bad shape and the stands were dented, leaning and could not be raised.

I was gonna walk out feeling the sound was gonna be BAD and I did not want to go through that. The crowd looks at the DJ like he sucks if the sound is real bad. Plus I had to use the Maya44 usb soundcard for timecode. The Maya44 usb is a good soundcard for timecode but it's not known for it's strong output.

The money was right so I went ahead and set up to play and...

WOW!!!!

These Yamahas really rocked. Loud, Clear, and I was more than impressed with the bass output.
I looked at these beat up speakers in a whole new light after that show.
