Here is a GREAT dj mixing live with VirtualDJ, controlled by Timecode CD and Pioneer CDJ100s.. He rocks! ;))

If I were you I would start with something like the Herc MKII or the RMX. They have built in soundcards and are very good budget controllers. Several VDJRadio DJ use the MKII. Or the Numark Total Control and the DJ i/o soundcard is another option. Or, you can look at something like the Ulcer midi mixers/controllers but, they cost a decent amount of money. Pioneer has some midi mixers..but they only control the crossfader, not the decks. Do your home work and I bet you'll make a good decision, your already asking the right questions, and in the right place......
I was thinking of Numark Total Control, i did not like the look of Herc MKII but i search for the RMX and that locked pretty sweet, what do you guys think if I buy a Herc RMX and i have a computer, would that work fine??

RMX will work great ;) native support and out of the box, with VDJ working
Its better than the mk2
And for those who wanna scratch seriously, Vestax VCI 100 or VCI 300 is a good choice
Or even the Pioneer CDJ 400

I'll let you know about the RMX tomorrow, I've got one on order and it should arrive in the morning. I own a mk2 aswell. I must admit the mk2 does look like a toy, but they are good. The RMX is the more professional looking of the two consoles.
All so with the Herc consoles, you get a free copy of the console edition (home version) of VirtualDJ, it's limited compaired with the Pro version, but it's get's you spinning and it's a start. And finially, this is the bonus you will get a discount on the Pro version when you decide to upgrade to it.

native support = built in support in VDJ, plug and play.
Not all controllers are supported natively in VDJ, and for those you need to map them yourself (midi mapping, not too hard), or dowload a premade mapper from this site.
Native support also have another advantage (over midi mapping), and that is that lights will flash up when pressed and so on (like if the play button also have a light etc)
So the RMX is "built for VDJ" so to speak :)
And you wont regret no...
The only "negative" side about the RMX is that it is not a true scratch controller, meaning it does not have true touchsensitive jogweels.
The difference is that on a controller with TRUE touchsensitive jogwheels (Like Vestax VCI), the song will stay stopped for as long as your finger is on the jogwheel, while on the RMX if you press your finger on the jogwheel, and keep it there without moving it, the song will start playing again.
But you can still do some cool scratches on the RMX, and most djs arent scratch djs anyway ;)
For beat mixing the RMX is nice, with built in soundcard and all...

so i can scratch with the RMX if i want to but if i hold the jogwheel the song wont stop?

Correct...
Therefor it can be used for "simple" scraching, but more advanced scratching it no good. You need a touchsensitive jogwheel for that, like Vestax VCI controllers have...
That being said, I bet 99% of djs end up as no scratching djs anyway.
Only hiphop djs really scratch, so might not be something you need :)

Here is Vestax VCI that HAS touch sensitive jogwheels...
And therefor is better for scratch djs.

Well, as you said, i dont think i would be doing much scratching so i think i am ordering the RMX if you guys dont think that is a bad choice for a newbee and it is not to expensive, then that is RMX for me..

RMX is a GREAT choice for a starting DJ... Possibly the very best there is for that price range. You get all you need... Mixer, jogwheels, soundcard... All you need to start djing..
There are a few others, but they are plastic and cheap made, compared to the RMX
Safe choice ;)
You even get a special version of VDJ for free with RMX ;) (VDJ Home Edition, console version, some features limited compared to VDJ PRO)
So you can start at day one.. .and upgrade to pro VDJ in time, if you need the extra features.

the rmx is a solid piece of kit construction wise, what annoyed me when i got mine not all the buttons illuminated which i would have expected, apparently it has something about drawing the power from the usb, which to me asks the question if they knew this why didn't they just give it it's own power source, eg: your in a darkened enviroment you want to know at a glance which functions you have activated you can't tell as of now, i don't scratch so i'm hoping someone can come up with a plug in where i can use one of the jog wheels as a video crossfader, now that would make up for it's short comings
