Topic: Serato Video vs Virtual DJ on youtube - Page: 2

I had numark stuff but not anymore. Anyway. forget about buying other name brand s to use with virtual Dj. Its all about virtual dj having there own equipment so you can use it with it. Example, virtual dj mixer. Virtual dj audio interface and etc. That would be a new approach.

The only thing I see that I would like to have is the channel fader to black. Using the Numark Total Control I think this would be easy to do and it would be awesome to see it.

Just fade the video with the volume of the music.

The rest of it is just neener neener neener. VDJ has/had the working product and there is nothing "wrong" with it. Every single day I find something else that makes VDJ better than the competition. Like.... using an external midi controller for extended shortcuts and using CLONE deck. WOW!

Agreed, forget the rest of the BS. If this where standard I would happily use channel fader fade to black and just the scratch transition and maybe an additive scratch transition but anything more is just icing on the cake

The competition is good and much welcome in my school of thought but from the video, I feel like this guy is better off learning just pure 'tricks of the trade' instead of hiding deficiencies under what different equipment can do. The click flares he's talking about couldn't sound more amateur, and the other stabbing wasn't impressive either, anybody with a rane mixer should be doing better:-)..Am not bashing him coz the're also good points when it comes to fading out using the channel faders and the video on the audio button. I used to put the club camera on screen when I mixed audio and video( the girls love to see themselves on camera, makes them feel like superstars even though they can't dance...and the club had nice lights which looked even better on the huge projector screens that we're there) Otherwise, see if you can find some ads to put up, when you play audio....could get you some extra mulah! and then again, wouldn't it look stupid to be listening to 'gimme more' by britney spears and seeing 'throw some d's on it' on the screen. Or even listening to a wack song and seeing the very song you want to hear on video with different audio, sorry to make it a lil extreme...he he....

Just for information:
SSL didn't create it because the automatic mode of the video transition (when you click on the activate button) already uses this idea (so it exists in VirtualDJ since the release of the video module)

SSL has just improved this idea ;-)

Its only natural ;) SSL released video, so the comparisons had to come..

Actually they released a preview, it's not offcially available yet..

I suspect 5.1 will be officialy released before that then.., nothing to worry about.

i do only audio!!!
Would be nice to have a vdj release for audio only:-)
not everybody needs all that heavy video stuff!

No resources are expended when Video is not enabled (in the video tab) and of course when video files are not loaded. Therfore it's just a format that's supported, nothing more, much like "not everybody needs those heavy .WAV files" not everybody has to load those files.

Video is integrated whilst at the same time an option (like any other format), Serato is a plugin.

People can have their opinions and i'm all for freedom of speech, but i question the point of posting a SSL video on a VDJ forum. Nobody would go on a cat lover's forum and post about how much they love their dog and all those cat lover's should really consider getting a dog(i'm sure people actuallt do). It does not matter what anyone uses and as stated before, if it works for you then it works. I dont get all the "them vs. us" threads on the net, it could be mac vs. pc or evolution vs. god. We all grown ups and have our own minds to make our own choices.

So refreshing to hear another grownups point of view. The lack of respect is prevalent in all forms of life, so it's not surprising to find it on forums. It's like when I was a kid and got a new pair of sneakers (Tennis shoes), I thought I could run faster. It's childish and it was OK then. At some point you are supposed to grow up. It's bad enough you are sleeping with his wife, but do you have to do it in his bed, in his house?

Not cause waves or bad mouth anyone but...

On DJ Kris Steel's youtube video url you can't post comments... so I did.. I responded to something he said.

someone mentioned about the $200 purchase price for the video plug-in for video for Serato...

his response:

your right. I forgot about that 200.00 charge. I also forgot to add in having to buy Virtual DJ, Virtual Vinyl and 5 sound cards, and 2 mixers to experiment with VDJ to get it to work right. Forgot those costs too. My bad. Oh and 2 hercules DJ consoles.

I responded but he deleted it.. I can't remember exactly what I said but I know I mentioned about the fact that VDJ isn't just tied into ONE specific soundcard/mixer just to do video & some other things relating to that.. . I have NO idea why he deleted my post.

---------------

... but I must have gotten under his collar because he sent me an e-mail through youtube with this to say:

----------------

I have a lot of Experience video mixing. I do demos for Pioneer and Promo Only I own every Midi Mixer on the market including the Pioneer, Korg 04, and ecler Nu04. I own virtual dj and have for 4 years. I aslo own virtual vinyl and have 5 different sound card including Numarks Virtual vinyl and have also tried using Serato as the sound card. I have an advance copy for a reason. I'm one of the highest paid video DJ's on the planet and an authority on the subject. You seriously don't know what your talking about.

----------------------

I had no idea that one's pay scale dictates knowledge. (I would love to compare in that department currently) And that someone's personal equipment inventory would say so much about one's spending habits. Good for him doing demos for Pioneer & Promo Only (who cares)... I guess he kissed the right ass or maybe was in the right place at the right time... who knows.. but why the ego around it? Maybe if I had the "wanna be" punk trendy haircut, be the "highest paid" video dj on the planet (what a bold statement), & hooked up with pioneer & promo only I would be an "authority" on the subject too...

wow...

He is brilliant isn't he?!

Sounds like a child to me, not just on the video.

See if it were not Christmas time I would make a joke..something along the lines of..."Man one of the highest paid DJs huh?....I would think he could afford a better hair cut"....but ...since it is Christmas..I will just say....Good for him..I hope he does well in the future.

I just didn't like the fact that he titled the video VDJ vs. SSL video but nowhere other then pointing to a mixer and VDJ does he visually show anything VDJ can do. To me its very one sided, if he had shown both i could respect that.

Most people that have half the skill he claims to have can see in his demo that he isn't that great at all. if he were he would not use a scratch track from qbert (or other master) to demo. He would have grabbed any part of a song and with a measure or two he could have done the same thing.

I have never heard of the guy....ever.....

Gonna call Brett (2nd Nature) and see if he knows him. I mean...Brett works for Promo Only and Pioneer and is considered one of the "Pioneers" of video mixing so surely he would know one of the "BIG Names". In a very quick conversation George Acosta says he has never heard of him. In case minds want to know G.A. just took the title of "America's Best DJ. And more in depth about that award it is given by DJ Times (never seen his name in any copy) and ...what was the name of that company...oh yeah Pioneer Pro DJ. I didn't see him or even hear of him at the hotel any of the three days at Ibiza.

In case you were wondering the other runner ups to that award were:

2. BT
3. Bad Boy Bill
4. Boris
5. Skribble

Surely I missed his name in there somewhere.... You think?

Also if he is paid that well then he needs to get a little more classy apartment. The crapped up kitchen cabinets and stove and the crap stick order of his "Studio/living room/ dinning room" just does not reflect who is claiming to be.

Now...on a separate note.... I had SSL before VDJ but before that I had FS and before THAT I had PCDJ Scratch. I still had the Maya44USB from PCDJ days and downloaded the professional addition the night I bought it and installed the maya drivers and it worked perfect the first time. I was using my 1200's in the house and the TTX1 at the gigs. Never had any troubles. Not once..... anybody else? So what is the deal that he knows all this great info but can't make a simple product work?

Personal notes....keep practicing. You have the start of a few skills that you may be able to use one day outside of you house. Also finish shaving your head. Most sponsors these days (the ones you described) like a different image than you are setting forth. Just my .02

Back to the Beat.....

Virtual dj software has always been very hard to figure out, Plus its not stable, lots of bells and whistles but its really not impressive at all. I here more people making fun of this product then prasing it. For all those who use it in my circle abandoned it when ssl came around, Theres dj's that use it for sure, But ive been from L.A to Japan and never seen it in practicle use, sorry guys this product has not proved itself, If it did there would be no comparison. Virtual Dj does not seem to be doing anything but trying to improve on a crappy product, they need to scrap it and go another direction. Make some hardware that kicks ass, But no its a product that barely gets it done. Sorry I dont get paid to dog Virtual DJ, I bought the product 2 Years ago and I could have saved my money. I see more of you guys on SSL forum defeading this product for its short comings. VDJ will be all but done in 3 years if the dont step it up, But it sucks right now.

It's hard to figure out, if you have trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time.

Wow mr sensitive!! Just my opinon.

Wow....Well... For someone that has had the product for two years the no license user title says you are hiding something. But hey...thanks for posting. It is good to see users that hate VDJ and have nothing better to do than type on a forum.

I would love to chat with you about the "shortcomings" that you speak of. I have been pressing this software to it's limits for two months and I can't find many problems at all. I can get the same exact results on VDJ that I can on SSL. I still love the sound card so hanging on to it. I have not used SSL or PCDJ at a show since I downloaded the VDJ 5 demo and was giving a walk through the basic features. Once you get going there is no stopping it.

Not a single hiccup live....fingers are now crossed though due to your insight....
