should i reinstall 5.2 ??? i have the database on my external , i should just be able to reinstall and all is new except the database .....then if i still have problems , wouldn't that point the finger at the external drive or the database file itself as the culprit ????
 
im on vista and ive had this problem two. happended twice while gigging and a couple of times in practice sets with no crashgard report to boot

I use XP also.
Try these couple of tweaks that have (for the time being) fixed similar problems.

FROM MY OTHER POST:

1.) Virtual Memory – Changed to: System managed size (thanks dj-in-norway)
My computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance [Settings] > Advanced > Virtual Memory – Select “System managed size”

2.) Memory management – Changed to: 1
From what I understand, your virtual memory IS NOT all cleared out at shutdown (by default) – some data stays in your Virtual Memory unless you perform this tweak that clears your pagefiles and other data from your Virtual Memory at shutdown.
Start > click Run > Type “regedit” > (in the left menu expand) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Session Manager > Memory Management (folder) > (right side pane, double-click) Clearpagefileatshutdown. The Edit DWORD Value window will be displayed. Type 1 in the Value data field, then click OK. Exit the Registery Editor. Restart for changes to take effect.

thanks for the try but there is no system managed size to select ......

processor scheduling prioritizes background processes , necessary for the soundcard .....

memory usage prioritizes programs ......

paging file is set to 1 1/2 times the ram (2048 mb) so in other words it's at 3072 mb ........

none of the above have been changed in over a year

i'll try the reg edit ...... i made the change , now time will tell ....

my XP btw is Media Center Edition , the last rendition of Xp , it is a variant of XP Professional that is well known for being problematic

I tried to use a Blue microphones Snowball ( cool usb mic) like TearEmUp ..... couldn't get it to work .... he and i spent an hour trying to get it

to work ,and no luck ....he has XP Home or Pro , but his will work mine won't under MCE ........
 
i was pleased to see the admonition to defrag from Norway .....

i defrag pretty much everyday using Diskeeper (highly reccomended) and sometimes change defraggers .....i sometimes use PC pitstop's Optimize to defrag or PC Pitstops Disk MD ( probably the same defrag engine) , plus I have AUSLOGIC's free defragger , which is very slow , I don't know if that means it's just slow or more thorough ??

i have a laptop cooler with built in 4 port usb hub , the fans are powered from the wall current and probably the 4 hubs are powered by a system buss ......they are rarely used especially live at a gig

i use CPU -Z to look at system specs and driver detective to easily update drivers

i use a registry cleaner nearly everyday also .....

if i get a stiff back i use Hillary , she's ergonomic ......
 
 
hard to tell yet only thing i have noticed in last few days is it seems slow to shutdown
 
last night a search reveals duplicate trax .....i delete said trax get dialogue box do i want to send to the recycle bin yes , ....goodbye software closes and disappears from screen ...
 
 
Happend to me twice thus far. No Crashguard nothing. Same deal only happens for me when running video.

Happens usually a long time after my start time.

The last time this happened was about 12:45 am from my 10:00 start time

Running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit

IBM Intel Based Dual Core 2.9 GHZ
 
I'm using 5.2.1 with XP Pro SP3 and have never had this problem.

That being said ONCE the interface completely locked up when I was using the internal folder browser.

I pressed ALT+CTRL+DEL and was gonna kill VDJ in task manager but suddenly it started responding, and never happened again!
