have hercules on this version decided to back light all of the buttons on this unit, for me it was a big mistake on the rmx not to, see they have kept the same shell and similar set up to the rmx anyway.

actually on second look it is the rmx, with just a couple of additions

2 new Buttons wow .... i'm very impressed .....

I've just noticed that Terry, no soundcard, how strange!!!!!

thats why its nearly £50 ($100) cheaper than the RMX

Guys, this is not replacing the RMX. The RMX was the upgrade to the MK2. This is the upgrade from the old MP3 DJC which did not come with a soundcard either.
So, look at is as the OLD MP3/MK2 designs are officially retired and now you have the RMX (w/Sound) or Steel (w/o sound) controllers.
There are those out there that don't need a sound card and just want a controller. This is a great addition to the Hercules line up.

I suppose it is Chris. May be a advantage, (havin no soundcard, so you can choose you own) thinking about it.

Is it smaller than the RMX by much (because of no sound card)?

It looks like it was built on the same frame as the RMX.....

agree with terry, all they have done is use the same carcass and added a couple of additions to the top plate. thats why you have the centre plate over laying the two outer dark plates.

This does not surprise me much.
They Released a non-soundcard edition of the original DJC, So why would they not release a non-soundcard version now they've com out with a new edition to replace that model?
Only thing that surprises me is that they did not release both models at the same time.

Probably want to see how the RMX sells before releasing it.

It's very simple guys, some like their controller to have a soundcard and others do not.
It all depends on the quality and specifications you expect froma soundcard and your budget etc.
The soundcard you'd find on your average controller would not be as good as your average stand-alone audio interface.
