I need to replace my back-up computer, it's getting too old to rely on.
I need something that will load my videos at the speed of light, something that will never skip, pop, burp, or cause my head to spin around while spewing green pea soup all over my dancers.
My "main computer" is a Dell Inspiron 531 and it does all of the above excluding the speed of light thing but it's much faster than the DMV. (Someone explain the "DMV" to our friends across the pond)
I would appreciate any recommendations from others who have a machine they are happy with beyond their wildest dreams that might be a little cheaper than my Dell.
Other "general comments" are also welcome in my post other than stuff like "Is that a Wonder Bra" ....
Go ahead TEARY..... batter up!

Did you ask Scotty Renee'? He and Spock were working on a new computer interface....the LCARS system. Try and google search Dr. Richard Daystrom.....he has some unique ideas also...the M5 Multitronic unit.

Doctor "Richard Daystrom" was one of the most influential Human scientists of the 23rd century.
I'm looking to replace my Commodore 64.... get a grip TEARY and grow up!
As for his "M5 Multitronic unit" If he prefects the multi - orgasmic unit I'll buy two..... one as my "main" and one as my backup.

i have an hp pavilion desktop that has been running for a long time now.........i think you can customize them to have the 7200 rpm drives, etc., i am unsure if there is anything faster than 7200 without paying a huge price....also think the hp prices are lower than dell.
so,,, did you make that shirt on "rock of love"? i bet bret loved it.

I put a new machine together recently which has been very good, cost me £600 with a 20" LCD but I assembled it myself. If you can build the machine yourself or have a friend that can put it together for you, Intel's E5200 is an amazing processor for very little money. With some decent aftermarket cooling (+$30) I have it up to 3.5Ghz with good temperatures and am confident I could go higher; generally most programs only use two threads and this dual core processor at this speed will outperform a stock quad core in such applications.
I'm using an 8800 GT as the graphics card and haven't experienced the green line problem with XP or skipping during automix BUT I haven't tested it properly (i.e. more than 10 minutes) as I don't really touch video, so maybe this information isn't so useful. It does however load video extremely quickly. In America you can get the HD4850 for the same price which is a better card (and people around this forum generally recommend ATI). However, both are HUGE cards, if you're after a small case or something cheaper, look at the 3850, I think quite a few people have these including DJ Marcel ($10 more will get you the more powerful 3870 but I've not read anyone's experiences with one of those).
The latest consumer Intel boards use the P43/P45 chipset. Any board from Asus or Gigabyte should be of excellent quality. I'm using the P5QL-E from Asus which has been great for the money, but it uses the P43 chipset. A P45 board will perform better, e.g. the P5Q-E. If you want to save $50 and don't need e-sata, the P5Q Pro is great for the money. If you don't want a normal size case, i.e. you prefer a smaller form factor, this DFI board should be good.
This machines pretty powerful but I still have XP installed for Virtual DJ. DPC Latency checker shows far less activity in XP versus Vista. If you're running Vista 4GB of DDR2 RAM will do you nicely (DDR3 is too expensive). Just make sure to get an even amount, e.g. 2 sticks or 4 sticks of the same memory (dual channel has a slight performance increase).

Take a look at this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4113840&CatId=2632
I purchased the dual core verision a few months back and haven't had any major issues they are now offering the Quad Core for about the same price. The only changes I made was puchased an ATI X1550 video card and a different sound card, instead of using the on board video and sound.

Got a small form factor Shuttle that we used in AC this year that works very well.
Hard to go wrong these days with the power available with most pcs.
Used a SN25 Shuttle in my main rig for nearly 2 years now with stellar results.
The build is shown in my blog.

These are perfect for building into low profile dj cases, and really short money.

I've had pretty good luck with HP over the years. They make a small form too- If you are into that sort of thing.

The best way to improve the loading speed is to get a PC/Laptop that uses a RAID.
