Topic: OVERLOCKING Video card?

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

What do these meen? below? Can i overclock/make my video card 256mb work harder by checking yes to this in my intel 3d settings? and is it safe for my machine and stability? Some help would be appreciated.

Force s3tc texture compression: YES OR NO?
force fxt1 texture compression: YES OR NO?

Driver memory footprint: High med or low
Triple buffering: ON OR OFF?

Thanks!

bascially all chips have a clock speed in Mhz or Ghz this is the speed at which data travels. overclocking bascially makes it go at a faster speed, most people overclock processors from like a 2.6Ghz to like a 3.2Ghz for instance and as vedio cards have a small processor in them thats why you can overclock it. Overclocking tho puts the parts under excessive strain, which produces more heat, and makes it potentially unstable, and will shorten the life span of the device. ONLY EVER OVERCLOCK IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!

The amount of memory a vedio card can hold is messuared in Mb or Gb so a 256Mb can only ever hold 256Mb this is because there is a chip on the vedio card that is used like RAM (thats why if you have a built in video card it will use the space on the RAM in the motherboad) which is bascially a fast way of holding data before its processed by the vedio card.

so to sum up, overclocking will make the card go faster BUT will produce more heat and shorten its life span so only overclock if the case is well ventiolated and its cool enough also if your motherboad has temputure sensors on it moniter it throughout as to check if it gets to high. Check how stable it is after overclocking (Sis Sandra Lite will run tests that you can compare to previous tests taken previsoly rember to write down results! http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a=)

I hope all of this helps its just all what i know and if its old dont overclock it!!! as ive overclocked old processors before and they have failed 1 week later!!! (my mate was not impressed! he had to buy a new laptop!!!! serves him right for being a arse hole!) anyway research what your doing and youll be alright hope it helps ya! ;)

Thanks for the input! Yea im trying not to do things im not familiar with BUT do these setting above OVERCLOCK or just make it work harder? I'm not sure if i should be messing with these at all? anyone familiar with these settings in a Intel graphics machine? I have a intel graphics media accelerator 950.

Thanks

I'm not sure what all the options are but they are not related to overclocking. Overclocking changes the clock/memory speed, the above options appear to be quality/performance related.

Overclocking may be done only with better video cards like Nvidia or ATI, you can't overclock Intel cards.
But in either way, I don't recommend overclocking in any way, if you need more power, buy it ;)

Why in God's name would anyone want to overclock a video card with next to no processing ability to begin with? You have nothing to gain, really, and even if you could do it, it'd sorely compromise system stability. You start thinking about overclocking when you've spent $200+ on a more high-end video adapter, like a GeForce 8800GTX or something of that ilk. In that case, perhaps you can actually get a 25% or greater gain, and that actually represents several frames per second in a high-end 3D game.

All that aside, it'd be pretty irrelevant for VirtualDJ and video playback I'd think. Unless there's some wicked Direct3D visualization engine that I don't know about ? The requirements for video playback should be met by all modern display adapters, even the super cheap integrated ones. How smoothly it works, however, could be a different story.
