I've been lurking around a bit, and I think I have a much better idea of what I want to get when I do buy from when I last posted. Here are the features I'm looking for in a controller, and features I don't really care too much about.
Features I care about:
7-9 band EQ. The typical 3 and 4 band EQs that you usually see just isn't as much control as I would like.
Plenty of buttons/knobs for effects.
some limited loop control
Buttons for cue points.
Price. Right now I'm just doing this in my bedroom as a hobby. I'm willing to pay a lot, but only in $300-$400 increments. A setup that is composed of multiple components that I can slowly acquire would be nice.
Stuff I don't care about:
Scratching. I just never do it.
Seeking. I'm more than happy with finding the track I want, and then setting up the cue points with a mouse.
I've decided that what I need is an external mixer/midi controller combined with some sort of midi controller to control the decks/effects. In particular I've been looking for something with 7 band EQ. I was wondering if having a powered mixer would be the way to go. Something like this? http://www.behringer.com/PMH1000/index.cfm?lang=eng
Then I would combine that with a controller that has lots of extra controls like this http://www.numark.com/mmcontrol
