Topic: Previewing help!!!!

Whats up Guys... I am new to vdj, just finally made the switch to dj'ing with a laptop. I was just wondering, how do i preview a track with vdj while I have one of the channels already playing...Sorry if this seems like a real rookie question but like i said im pretty new to this.. Thanks for your help!

Hi, so to preview tracks you need some sort of second sound card. That can be something really basic for $5 that plugs into a usb port (then you just plug your headphones into it and have the music playing from your laptop's inbuilt card) or it can be a 5.1 surround card (becuse they have multiple outputs), or a professional soundcard (anything uptop $800), or you could buy some sort of controller with a soundcard built in (that's what I'd recommend if you don't already have some sort of controller and you've got a few dollars spare).

If you write what kind of thing you think you might be interested in, I'm sure people will be happy to give suggestions on what to buy if you give a rough idea of how much money to have to spend.

Im still kind of confused on how this works. So say i bought the numark DJIO. I would need to config virtual dj so that the channel i want played through my speakers would be going through the DJIO and the track i wanted to preview would be played through my headphones? But that is kind of annoying because then I would have to keep unplugging my headphones from mixer and back into my laptop? And when i config VDJ can I preview both tracks through my headphones or do i have to keep going back and changing it from master Channel 1 to preview channel 2 and vice versa.
 
You have an option in the config menu of auto cue, or manual cue. Also, in the config menu there are options for sound set up. I would suggest, if you buy the DJ i/o to use it for both cueing and running the main sound output through. It is a very good all around card.
 
Ok, so I think I might have this somewhat figured out now. Im thinking of buying the DJIO from numark. I will use that as my primary soundcard plugged into my usb. So now I will be able to preview tracks using my laptop's sound card right? And what I have to do is set my config menu to headphones output, then set my primary to DJIO and secondary to laptop. So when I listen to my headpones I will be able to preview both tracks without having to keep switching the menu right? Sorry for being such a rookie but im not willing to give up on my cd players yet. I was looking at the numark total control but im just worried not having my mixer and cdplayers hooked up. Right now i am using a dual cd player as my channel 1 and 2 and channel 3 is for VDJ. Just want to make sure the DJIO will do the job before I spend another $100 because of VDJ... Thanks Guys
 
LIGHTBULB!!!! Thanks for your help guys....I am going to order the DJ IO tomorrow... The DJ IO will be channels 3&4 on my mixer, this way I can preview a track via my headphones through my mixer by assigning my headphones to that channel. Channel 3 will be the left deck and the right deck will be channel 4...When i first bought VDJ I thought that would plug right into my mixer and that would be it. I guess I should of known better but at least this setup will do the job now. Thanks for your help guys...maybe someday i can sell my heavy audio box and just use my laptop and buy the numark total control with a set of speakers...
