Updated drivers for the soundcard and firmware for the cd drive. Will have a play about with vdj later on to see if things work.

Good luck. I tend to run with almost everything disabled - although I do leave wireless and bluetooth on as I often use bluetooth during my gigs.
 
I got kind of a similar issue. I had an XPS M140 with XP and it ran fine. I just bought a new laptop and the music skips like every 5 to 10 secs. I dont understand if this is a Latency problem or Hercules RMX issue. Am running WDM on the setup.

Oh no.

Left the laptop on last night but it got unplugged and so ran out of battery.

Went to boot up today and the two hard drives have failed.

:-/

It booted up eventually and I can get on the net etc and am backing up to external at the moment. This is the problem. Anyone had this before? Hope it's not too serious...

Seems both of the harddrives have failed.

Apparently I can delete the raid 0 volumes but i might need to completely reinstall the operating system.

I've only had this laptop for about two weeks.
 
Thats the problem with RAID-0, losing one disk will render your whole array trashed.

Don't know what's happened with yours - could be some corruption due to the power outage.

I'm not really familiar with Raid-0 to be honest. Never had any issues with my last Dell Inspiron laptop which I had for five years.

So what are my options?

Should I delete the raid volume create a new raid 0 and reinstall the OS?

Or are things much worse than that?

Depends if it's a hardware failure or not.

If you reinstall, I would personally ditch the RAID, and just run it as two seperate drives.
 
Update:

Managed to get help from Dell support in India and everythign is fixed and the harddrives are fine.

PHEW.


In terms of using Virtual DJ I have noticed that I can use it fine without clicks distrotions or skips if I do not have it set up to play timecodes. This is good for me as I can use the sigmatel on board soundcard for microphone use on my radio show.

I can also play vinyl through the hercules if I change the source setting on the herc from pc to turntable. I just couldn't EQ it or increase the gain. Not great but I could accept it.

Perfect i thought. Problem solved.

Well almost.

I can broadcast with no audio problems (no distortions etc). The mic works fine but without Virtual DJ being set up for Timecodes it doesn't broadcast the vinyl output even though I can hear it on my home system.

Bugger.

So close but yet so far.

back to the drawing board.
 
I have ran into the infamous Dell laptop issue also. I purchased an Inspiron 1525 on Feb 14, 2.2 processor; 4 gig ram; 2mb cache, and I have had issues with latency since I first turned it on. I have disabled all of the drivers I can think of including the battery saver mode along with the wireless and still have issues with the sound dropping out. I contacted them today and they e-mailed me a return label. I am able to return for a full refund with no shipping charge. I need to know what other laptops people have had really good luck with. I have a gig on the 14th and I need to buy a new laptop in the meantime. I am looking at both the Sony and Toshiba's. Has anyone else had luck with either of these? The pricing is about $150 less than what I paid for the Dell. Thanks and God Bless.
 
I couldn't take it anymore, and it was getting worst so I bought a Inspiron 1525 two weeks ago. It's running Vista Home Premium. Just the standard 1525 on the Dell website. I now have clean, clear sound. I did have to disable the wireless card, but now I have good music with no distortion or drop-outs. No spikes at all. I'm trading a girl I work with my Studio 1535 for a 9' Pool Table. I'll get some use out of that laptop yet...
 
i got the same problem on the DCP but not has bad as ur, i have the dell studio 1535 for over 7 mouth i couldn't figer it out,I try everything , i call dell i spend about 1 hour in phone, and i just got the audio 4 dj i was trying to use traktor with this laptop but it inposible and i had before the console Rmx but i had to bring it back because it wasn't working properly the Asio, but the virtual dj it work good....
if you fine out how to solve the problem let me know.
 
Try suspending the ACPI.SYS thread.

There is a thread on another forum somewhere, I'll see if I can find it...
 
 
Can't believe my thread is still going.

Left the Dell systems behind me many months ago (last Nov IIRC), bought an HP G70 17" laptop, works great!!! :-)
 
If anyone is thinking of purchasing a Dell Laptop in the UK, a quick tip.

Use the website to chat live to a salesperson to ask questions about the laptop. State what you want to use the laptop for. Save the conversation (there is an option to do this when using Dell live chat)

If the salesperson says it will do the job you are purchasing it for and it doesn't, then it is not fit for purpose under the sale of goods act. This stands with an oral statement made by a salesperson in a shop, but it can be hard to prove. The beauty of the Dell live webchat is its all printed out as proof after the conversation.

That only works with XP. Seems to work well, too, from what I've read.

Can't disable in Vista, though...
