Like some of you, I've had many clients insist on bringing me something to eat as a gesture of hospitality, I think. I usually politely decline, but some of them are pretty persistent, so I eventually cave ;)

Very nice replies. I don't really think it's a right or wrong thing. Just opinion. My buddy will be pleased to know the majority favor his opinion, lol!

For my company, I work hard at always portraying the professional appearance. For those that think I'm crazy for not eating you'll love this one. As far as the professional look goes, I even show up in dress clothes for set up, then change into another set for the performance (I'm a sweater, LOL!). My buddy thinks I'm really nuts about that one. It's just what I do, though. I'm one of those shirt and tie guys at the convention that everyone else makes fun of.

Anyway, as far as putting a requirement for the meal in your contract; what will you do if that part of the contract if broken? Sue them? My opinion (and it's just an opinion) is, why put something like that in the contract. Either they'll offer you a meal or they won't. Kind of seems like an undue sense of entitlement to put it in the contract. If you work at the phone company, they don't supply you a meal when you go to work. You either brown bag it, or go to Applebee's. Now, on those special occasions where Joe Blow retires, the company may supply a hamburger to help celebrate. It's a nice thing to do, but not your right just because you showed up to work. Again, just an opinion.

By the way, I did eat at the wedding I started this thread about because we were in a separate room from the rest of the party. Plus, it was just an awesome place to eat. AMAHM probably knows the place. It was the Moshulu in Philly. Had an awesome steak with lobster, and some kind of potato pancake thing. I was happy no one was around that day!

I never eat at a gig, but it's because I have false teeth & taking them out would seem a little unprofessional. Just make sure you don't spill the cocktail sauce on your shirt..lol;^]

i'm in agreement w/ Teary and AMaHM ........

Lincoln freed the slaves , and I don't get treated like that .........

I'm eating when the guests eat that's all ...... I avoid garlic and onions , and bring a toothbrush also ... BUTT that isn't out of some concern for the customer ....... it's so i don't offend the lovely and ergonomic ladies making all the requests ......

ergonomic means .....feels good when you use it ......

My contract says that there is NO agreement in force UNTIL the deposit check clears or the deposit is paid in cash

Deposits for weddings are $300 .00 ....... non refundable

I get asked if I want food and drink , I say yes smile and insist on having fun .......

you only get the respect that you deserve and enforce

to me this is a touchy topic because i remember when i was a kid my grandmother always treated waiters like sh!t .......i don't understand it myself , but some people just get on a power trip that way if they feel like you are the help ......??

and YES YOU CAN tell a lot about someone by the way they treat the waiter ........

All musicians, including DJ's are entitled under Musicians Contracts to receive a bonified meal. You should never be expected to be employed for 6 hours plus your time arriving before the show without a meal break. So back to the original question. Should we eat before, the same time, or after the guests.

My personal opinion is that at a wedding we should eat the same time as the "parents' table. Finish the meal and get back to work. During main meals I do one of two things, either entertain children on the dance floor with a stack of silly games, or play music that gets the tables singing along and ready to dance. You can’t do that and eat at the same time.

But that never happens, we are always last to be fed but I have become accustomed to the three-minute meal. BUUUUURRRRP!

You guys do love your beef, chicken, or fish, lol! Make sure you smell that fish before you eat it, though. Or at least have a mint for when you finish.
