I'm just starting out, just got my Total Control (CUE 5 software and DJ/IO were supposed to ship at the same time but haven't shown up yet, when they do I'll be a REGISTERED USER AT LAST!!!), and I need some suggestions on what amp/speaker combo to get, and what specs to look for in each to make sure they will go together without frying anything. Anybody tried these guys?

Tell us what your budget is, and what type of parties you plan on doing. If you go budget, that is what you will get. If you want something that will last you awhile, you will have to spend a little more.

If the Total Control is new you can register the software that came with it, and become a Home User. And, when you CUE comes in, you will have the icon and three stars ....

Cool, I'll register as soon as I return home tonight!
So, what do you guys think of JBL JRX115 2-way speakers? I can get them for $560 shipped from an Amazon seller.

JBL JRX115 15" 2-Way Speaker Cabinet - Pair Features:

Progressive Transition Waveguide horn
3/4" acoustically superior MDF cabinet
Trapezoid cab design for excellent projection
Dual-socket polemount system
250W continuous power capacity
1,000W peak power capacity
Heavy-duty recessed handles
Heavy steel grille
1/4" and Speakon connectors
SoniGuard protection circuitry
I've read some great reviews of these speakers, and they'll fit within my price range.
As for an amp to go with them, what about the Behringer Europower EP1500 Power Amplifier for $246 (or EP2500 for $288) shipped from Amazon seller?
Would the specs on these go together well? I've read good things about both of these units. I'm also looking for suggestions on good speaker stands for these. And as for the watts/ohms/bridge/etc. relationship and how figures in not frying one's equipment, is there a good primer on this concept that is understandable to newbies like me? I want to be able to rock the house without setting fire to it. Thanks!!!

Gosh darnit all, I don't appear to be able to edit my posts. I was going to say that the $560 price is for a pair of the speakers, not one...sounds like a pretty good deal to me from what I hear.

Behringer is the low budget solution which is ok if you're just starting out but you'll want to upgrade that soon. I'd recommend the Europower 2500 instead though. Your speaker choice runs an average of 250-500 watts while your amp will only push 260w max. When you ride an amp to it's maximum you risk distorting sound and burning out the amp before it's time (especially with cheap amps). Ideally you want an amplifier capable of producing twice the RMS of your speakers or basically able to produce the peak amount. The less an amp has to work, the better the sound.
The EP2500 will produce 450w into 8ohms which is still safe for your speakers and will produce better sound.
For medium sized gigs I use 2x JBL MRX515's powered by a Mackie M4000 however I only run the amp at around half most of the time.

The JBL JRX115 pair package is what I'm about to get as well along with a QSC GX5 power amp. Great reviews on 'em & names I feel I can trust. Should provide for an excellent sound system;^]

Depending on your budget, DBX PA DRIVERACK is by far the best investment you can make for sound management. Some people dissagree but I would add a sonic Maximizer to your rack as well.
You may want to add subs and another amp.
My system has a QSC PLX 3200 amp Drives low end, QSC PLX 3002 amp, Drives highs, DBX Driverack, Sonic Maxmizer, 4 Yamaha 115v's, 4 Custom made Dub 18 bass bins loaded with Eminence Sigma pro drivers.
Me personally, I don't like the idea of "beginner equiptment". I will explain why
When one decides to be a DJ or anything else for that matter, the core equiptment you will need should be up to par.
You end up paying A LOT MORE MONEY to upgrade.
If you buy second rate tt's, as you grow in your trade, You're second rate tt's will not grow with you. You will have to purchase top of the line gear...but wait, You already have paid all this money for the other tt's that do not do the job you need them to do. On top of that...You can't sell them because nobody wants to buy them. You will end up with 2 pair of tt's, one pair that you can use for your gigs and one pair that you don't really use.
I have given this advice before and I stick to it.
For a beginner that wants to be a PRO dj one day and MAKE MONEY dj'ing, this is the basic things you will need.
1. GOOD TURNTABLES
2. Decent Mixer
3. GOOD NEEDLES
If you are trying to build a soundsystem...
1. GOOD AMP
2. Decent speakers (Full Range)
3. Decent EQ
Always get equiptment you can build on. Getting low end gear just means you will spend money for the low end stuff and spend MORE money for good the gear later.
Save your money and buy the good stuff the first time...It's worth it.
Hope this helps

Oh...
PLEASE STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM Gemini, American DJ, Technical Pro, Gem Sound, Everything you see on that site. For them, Cheap gear really means CHEAP GEAR. Not inexpensive but CHEAP!!!!!
Trust me on this.
Amps...
QSC, Crown, Mackie,
Speakers...
Yamaha, EV, JBL, Turbosound, EAW, Peavey (High End Only)
Just about all the stuff on the sites you posted will do nothing but make your bank acct smaller and leave you, your crowd and whoever hires you PISSED OFF.
Like I said before, take your time and buy the right gear the 1st time. you will save a buttload of money, time and headaches.
