Topic: Shooting Hiphop video, help me out with inspiration

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi.

During some days the next couple of weeks I am going to shoot (not direct, I'm a cinematographer/photographer) a hiphop video with a local artist.

Now, my style both musically and visually is usually not that of hiphop/urban, so I figured I'd ask you guys for examples of videos that I want to examine for inspiration and techniques :-)

What the director wants to do is shoot the usual urban culture, cityscapes, streetlife etc, typical detroit/new york or even london kind of stuff and adapt it to our scandinavian paradise city of Bergen, Norway, lol.

Can you guys give me examples of good hiphop videos with that kind of content? I'm not really looking for a special look, I'm thinking more content than look. I don't want fancy studiowork or extravagant yachts and and jets and that sort of stuff, but I do want Hiphop/R&B style:

Kids/Adolescencets hanging out, playing ball etc
Gangs (?)
Streets
Brick and concrete facades
Cityscapes
Driving (in city)
Multicultural, multiethninc daily life (sort of)
The projects :-)
Everything urban really, both "realistic"/gritty and stylized stuff

If you have some tips including chav style UK stuff, that's also interesting.

All tips (feel free to include youtube url's) are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Try some videos from these artists;
Public Enemy
KRS One
NWA
there are many more, these popped to mind real quick.
Good luck with the project.

IMO, go down the old school route,

All the new videos are all the same nowadays!!!!!

Thanks TDbennet.

Jimmy, I know they're all the same... but as I said, I'm not the director, I do camera and lighting (DP) only. The content is the director's choice.

The reason I want some pointers to different material is to get some inspiration for lighting and framing etc.

You can't have a hip hop video without a booty shaker!

If your looking for inspiration I think you need to listen to the lyrics of the track....

of all the things i have read so far the one thing i have noticed lacking is the most important - sex appeal! if you dont have booty workin then you got nothin

haha. yeah , I know I know. but as I said... I'm not the director. He allready knows what he wants...

What I'm looking for is the techniqes and styles used filming this various content I listed.

hey try looking at Busta Rhymes New York.. video dat maybe will help

Google search Ruby Rodd....and do the exact opposite of what he does.
