Hey there guys. I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while now but I can't seem to get it so its about time I ask here. I have VDJ set up on my home pc and my mac laptop which I use on mobile gigs. I want to set up VDJ so that the playlist file is in my external HD so that I have the same playlists available at home so I can work on them as well as on the go with my laptop. So, how can I change the location of the playlist folder to my external hd and have both my mac and pc recognize the location of it?

Hi
Let me see if my way can help you a little bit. I have 2 external drivers that are identical in directory structure for my music. I also keep a copy on my PC's internal harddrive. Basically, I had a similar situation with the playlists. This is how I tackled the issue.
I would create the playlist let's say on my PC. Playlist is basically a reference to the music file on your drive in the order you want. If you were to open it with notepad you would see lines like the following;
F:DJ SETHouse DanceBob Sinclair - Sounds of Freedom.mp3
..
..
..
and the playlist is called "house tracks.m3u" in your ~My DocumentsVirtualDJPlaylists directory.
You can approach to this from couple of ways.
1 - You can have the laptop / PC to see the external drive letter exactly the same letter as it is recognized in the original location you created it.
2 - Then copy the playlist to the second location in the same directory where VDJ can see. This way, in both locations VDJ sees the harddrive with the same drive letter. Again, directory structure is the same since it is the external harddrive.
If somehow, you created the playlist when the external hardrive is assinged a letter "F" (or whatever it may be) and cannot use the same letter in the second location, you can edit the playlist with notepad, by using find/replace function, you can change only the letter reference like
Find F:\ Replace it with E:\
of course replace all is your option.
When you put the playlist in VDJPlaylist folder and open it, VDJ can reference the file properly.
I do this all the time. First way is the easier way in my opinion. Just go to the drive properties when you plug in your hardrive and change the drive letter to the original one.
I hope this helps.
