Do I need a midi controller for my computer to patch into my Behringer DDM4000 so that when I move the crossfader it also fades it from left to right within VDJ?

Yes you do. For the video crossfade that is.

You can get a small midi controller (with almost just a crossfader, like X-Session Pro from M-Audio), to more full blood controllers like Numark Total Control, Hercules RMX, Vestax VCI-100 and so on.

And in the long run, you could even replace that Behringer mixer, with a REAL hardware mixer with midi built in, such as Ecler Nuo4, Ecler Evo4, Korg Zero4, and Pioneer DJM700 & 800... etc

Hope that helps :)

Well, this mixer has midi ins and outs...

I thought you could crossfade video with the DDM4000?

There a Mapper Here for it. 2nd one down.

MY bad... That mixer should work just fine ;)

Didnt know it had MIDI.. sorry .. (new to me that mixer)

okey, I remember that mixer now.. I helped ConQuest map it up for Video use.

It was a bit tricky, because the Behringer mixer is a bit odd made when it comes to midi. It can switch between audio only mixer and midi only mixer (where as miost others will be hybrid). So it will be a midi controller totally, when in midi, so you need to map audio crossfade up to midi as well etc.

Let me know if you need help

But try the premade mapper too :

Thanks guys. I'll try this when i get home.

Do you know how to switch between the two modes?

edit - basically I should be able to fade video with this and the Maya44 USB sound card, right?

yes, when mapped up the crossfader will crossfade audio AND video in Virtual DJ ;)
(or other slider if you want to control the crossfade seperately...)

Will work fine ;)

The Behringer mixer has a switch button for midi mode, where the whole mixer goes into midi. Meaning it stops being a hardware audio mixer, but turns itself into a midi controller. So even the audio crossfade gotta be done by midi commands to VDJ.
It works fine..

Althought if it was hybrid (like other similar mixers), it could have mixed audio in hardware, and only video crossfade in midi /software.

But thats ok.. Its a bargain mixer, and there might even be a firmware fix later on that makes it hybrid

So to recap:
I can take ANY two cd players / vinyl turntables, use my Maya44 USB and this mixer and be able to hook it up with the videos crossfading as well as the audio?

to answer your question...YES.. you will need :
a midi in/out to usb device(unles your cpu got midi in and out plugs on it already; if not (which most laptops dont)you will have to get this as its the only way t use the midi features of the mixer.
you can get a decent one for about $30us although mines costed $70 as i can change the midi cords if needed
