Topic: There's a bear in my backyard

You guys gotta check this out its actually the neighbors backyard, a full family of black bears are hanging out in town unbelievable!

Neat a mom and her cubs, but at the same time I'd be spooked( at the fact that bears are in my back yard). Where exactly do you live? They've had a few spotting's down here which is almost non-existent which somewhat has me on my tippy toes. =)
 
This is in northern PA about and hour south of Erie

I would of loved to been there, we don't get them in the UK. Very cute but dangerous.



 
Holy snap! you would be lunch meat if you moved too fast.

on the second hand ... is it possible you can get a nice close up shot, perhaps climb up the tree a little. :) j/k

No s%^t, bears are only cute from far away. Or, behind steel bars at a zoo. Otherwise they would eat you just as soon as look at you. Cyder, cool pics..but I hope you are using a real long lens......

remember only you, and sometimes lightning, can start forest fires.

yeah, bears, cute. don't forget to stand under tree when they need to drop a load.... and you thought pigeons were bad???
 
Stay away from that situation. Very cool to see, but a mother and her cubs are not to be messed with. I hope the local wildlife control has been called. That is a very dangerous situation.

that's insane!

pour honey all over yourself and try to have a little chat with pappa bear! Let us know how it goes... or we could see it on the 10 o'clock news I am sure...

cool pics but i have to agree that getting near mommy and the kids is a great way to end up as a human skin rug ......
 
Most predator/omnivorous animals, usually don't like the taste of Human beings.

To Be blunt : we taste bad.

Our diets make our meat taste bad to most predators. And here's the fun part it doesn't matter if your a vegetarian or not - we still taste awful.

here's the but........

To a scavenger that will eat rotten meat without blinking twice (wolves, wolverines, coyotes, bears, raccoons, dogs, etc) We taste just fine. But a couple of hundred years have made them wary of humans.


Even knowing this..... You can't get me anywhere near a national park in Alberta till after June, when most of the predators in the parks have had they're winter hibernation hunger pangs satisfiyed

hehe, black bear aren't too bad to people until they feel threatened or until somebody comes between mama & cubs. I haven't been scared of black bear since I was a kid, then again us here in the great valley of Virginia are spoiled with the skyline drive (in Blue Ridge Mountains). I've filmed a few of them there & they have yet to attack anybody who didn't deserve it..lol;^]
