Having gone from 6 gigs a week to three it now gives me a chance to visit other venues local to me here in the UK. The isle of wright festival was excellent as with gigs in Southampton. Visiting a few clubs i note that the crowds are way down even on weekends. Dispite the fact that our politictions have been playing down the fact that a recession was just a myth over the past three years and are now having to admit but put blame it on other factors ie: Iraq, Afgan war, also the bush administration in the USA, always someone else to blame. I have seen on the gound the decline in of the many of our venues. This evening i had an inquirey for a booking for a Saturday night of which the asking price for a 4 hour disco was £120.00, they said it was to much and knocked it down to £90.00 as trade was poor. I see my business as not only to provide entertainment but to turn venues around however where do you draw the line. I was asked if i could do supply the advertising and would i bring my followers with me. To me £90.00 is money in my pocket for a night i could be sitting on my backside less tax transport etc... so i guess £60.00 in the pocket. Speaking tonight to friends who are club Djs, they are prepared to do 180 mile round trip for £120.00 doing a six hour gig. I know good DJs / Entertainers are worth their salt but are we a dying breed and worth alot more or is it the case the cheaper the better?

I'm doing three nights a week as well at the moment, but to be honest thats all I want to do :) One venue has slowed down a bit, and the other hasn't had any noticeable change at all... still pulling in good money. The manager of the venue doing well says it's down to events, promotions and DJs, so some of them still recognise us :)
180 mile round trip for £120 6 hour gig?! That seems a bit crazy to me!

I feel bad about the problem there. Not just the DJ problem but the others also. Maybe if things get any worse you can come visit and we could do some shows here in the US together. Our economy sucks right now also but yours seems worse. I hope things pick up for you both.

To be honest, I've yet to be greatly affected - I've even managed to get a small payrise - the only real hit is the cost of fuel... I would get something more economical, but... nah....

Thanks for you input guys. More bad news from our senior man at the bank of England is that the UK economy is gonna get worse and adding to that we are warned that home gas charges are gonna increase by 40%. So much for being the 4th richest country in the world. However as bleak as the picture looks i remain positive. Also thoughts of other hard hit folk ie: China etc...... sort of put things in perpective for me.
