I have an American Audio mixer w/o a MONO switch. Also, at times I feed the ZONE into a remote wireless setup.
Mixers as a rule do not like 'summing the outputs'.
Can someone either make or advise how to sum the L&R before it leaves the soundcard?

Try this: Fruit's Special Balance (http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/download.html?addon_id=1125). It still works fine on 5.1. I use it a lot for those very separated old stereo mixes, you know voices on one side and drums etc. on the other (yes someone back in the day thought that was a good idea, ah I remember buying my first 'stereo' LP....stop yawning!)
