what is your budget ??

i am not too sure what kinda units to recommend without a budget

is this a hobby ?

you will have to get a model that fits your budget , if you will do video , you will require a good graphics card

since you will have Vista i would recomend at least 3 gb of ram ...... any store bought (non custom) unit will require some tweaks when you get it home..... it will be loaded with default barf ware and running way too many processes .....

one of the stickies above is all about tweaks for music in general and vdj in particular , so lotsa good free help available here

I am using a dell laptop that i bought from the dell outlet. they sell certified referbished laptops cheap and they sell very fast. I bought a Inspiron 1501 for 529 with AMD turion 64 x 2 2.0ghz 1 gig of ram and a 256mb video card. I bought another one months later as a back up. A inspiron 1521 same specs as the first but this one has 2 gigs of ram. I paid 529 . It comes in New condition and you can add warranty on top if you want. They have other latops even cheap than what i paid for around 400 and higher...
The best to buy are the ones that say certified refurbished

That explains why the models I end up with are fat and have harry knuckles.........OH! we're not talking chicks...never mind

as long as she likes my trailer and Pabst .... she's a good , ergonomic unit .....

ergonomic means ......feels good when you use it ??

welp , back to compu speak.......a certfied used might be okay.......here's my hideous advice , you may not like it .....i'm not thrilled at the idea of anyone using a used dell inspiron .......

if you get any certified used lappy , at least take 'er home , tweak 'er up a bit ( you know , candle light and Pabst ) install 5.1 oops i meant 5.0.7 , tweak 'er out some more ...... ( practice safe tweak ) , then use 'er at home only ( no gigs) with passionate abandon .......for a week or so , and only then go live .....

cheers guys my budget is 400 max i just wanted to know what spec/type of processor to aim for i will be using the laptop for gigging yes
thanks for your help so far

400 actually gives you a decent range on USED laptops. surprisingly, VDJ aint a huge resource using computer unless you use video, etc...

minimum is 512 ram, 1.2ghz processor plus guessing, etc

all in all, to USE the program, any computer you buy today will be fine. Best way to do it if you have some laying around, install the demo on the computers...

i have one on my old dell 2.4 ghz pen. 4 still (laptop) and a copy on my hp 1.7ghz celeron... works fine with 2 turntables imo

g luck
