Topic: Anyone experienced buying vehicles?

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi chaps,

Bit of a different topic here, basically I've been browsing for a new car lately and I've seen a car which seems to be "too good to be true".

It's a modern and immaculately looking car, and priced far too low for what it is, priced at £2,000, worth around double that figure.

I emailed the seller quizzing him about this, and he responded within a few minutes with this:

Let me explain. The car is locked in my garage in the UK. I have left for Holland because I got a very good job offer here.

If you want to proceed please send me your full name and address for a shipping quote.

Due to amount involved, I suggest using the security provided by eBay which will hold the cash. In my opinion this is the safest way to handle the transaction. You will have the car for inspection and test drive BEFORE any money is released to me.

Secondly, you will receive all appropriate documents along with the vehicle. Naturally, I will sign the section 8 in the V5 form so you can easily transfer the car into your name.

1. Buyer, seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions)
2. Buyer sends money to eBay.
3. eBay confirms to seller that the amount has been received.
4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance).
5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay about the acceptance.
6. eBay releases the money to seller.

As you can see, you will receive the car BEFORE any money is released to me. You will get the chance to inspect it, test drive it and everything you like while your money is still safely held in eBay's account. ONLY after you confirm to eBay that you agree with the vehicle, they will release the money to me.

If, for some reason, you disagree with the car (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and eBay will send you your money back.

From the moment you receive the car you have 15 days to inspect it. If is not like I said or something is not ok with it you can reject it and eBay will fully refund you and the vehicle will be shipped back to me, on my expense.

EBay will transfer the money to me, only after you will confirm, them the purchase of the vehicle. Until then, the money will be safe kept by eBay and not released to me.

The car will be shipped directly to your requested address, as soon as I will have the payment confirmation from eBay. EBay will hold the money until you will receive, inspect and accept the car.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Regards

Do I sense a scam or what?

It'll be a scam mate... besides who would go to that much trouble to flog a car for £2k?!

It smells like shit to me, and I am way over here, in New Jersey. On the other hand, does ebay have a policy like he explains? If so, look into it. Anytime someone goes into that much detail, my hairs stand up. It's like a magician, look over here, while I steal everything you have.

I dont recomend anyone buying cars thats not in front of your eyes right there.. It could be the cheapest deal in the market but i wont buy. I have to be able to inspect it by driving it and looking uder the hood before you hand over the money. Buying cars, its best to see it in person. You can discover hidden problems that the owner didnt mention while your testing it.

If you want to get a car. You can do this if you want... before you buy it, go to the nearest mechanic with the person selling the car. (always go with a freind) have the mechanic check out the car and ask him if it s worth the price that the owner is selling it for.

Run away Right Bloody Now from this "DEAL"

Someone is running a similar scam in Alberta and Ontario right now. The R.C.M.P and O.P.P are making newspaper notices about this type of deal

to my knowlege (I used to sell digital prionted banners on EBAY....but it may have changed in the year since I quit) EBAY DOES NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT for products, they DO NOT HOLD ANY MONEY, they DO NOT confire you recieved anything.....ebay simply advertises the item for sale, facilitates the auction and collects THEIR fees....that's it

The method escapes me now but there is an easy way to look for the IP address of the originating e-mail. It is very easy for people to make e-mails that look like they are coming straight from e-bay. I came close to getting scammed on some Jet Ski's a few years ago but was lucky to catch it. When you open the e-mail look under options in your e-mail software for the IP address. It does smell like a scam to me.

now ere's 'ow to have a gr8 VEE HICLE ........ALWAYS wax the hood ......place a beeyoutiful babe in passenger seat , crank fabulous stereo to # 11 ........as far as you can see and hear , it's a gr8 car .......

Well I was unsure at first, but after receiving that E-mail it pretty much confirms it. Lying about Ebays policy etc, so I gave the guy a piece of my mind.

good one bagpuss

chuck you forgot to mention those rims another great selling point...

sorry Tayla .... i forgot , i'm so busy inventing my new car stereo , the Thumper .... it doesn't bother playing stations or anything , it just thumps, buzzes and rattles at a minimum 95 decibels
