Topic: Mac Mini

I was looking around online and came across mac mini, has anyone used one before?................I think its very portable and ideal for the mobile dj.

wow, newegg has em for under $600.
 

can work for audio mixing, but bet it will struggle a bit for hardcore video mixing, as it doesnt have a good video card, or even video output as far as I know :)

 
Yea, looked like it only had the single dvi output.
 
what would you guys get a mini mac or a normal desktop. Pros? Cons?
 
I would build a shuttle type system, well actually I have, mine is bigger than a shuttle but smaller than a tower which allows me a lot of room to upgrade when I need to.

I have one of these. no ability for second video out so can't do video with this.
but it is very capable for audio mixing.
this company has a newer system, a little taller, that has a PCI slot but don't know how great a video card you can get for PCI now-a-days.
 
Honestly for the same money you can find a midgrade laptop and get a video out.
 
I agree. I have one, and I just use it in my home theater setup. And my Xbox360 is starting to take over in that arena. I wouldn't try to use it for anything too serious, not enough power.
 
I use my mac mini with osx server 10.5 to manage my network and several large raided drives for storage then an airport extreme so that i can stream my music from these drives on other computers.

This probably will be made redundant by the time capsule.

It does not pack the punch needed for video it has a similar intel shared memory card to the apple tv , it is actually possible to hack install osx onto a apple tv.

For audio if you get 2 gb of ram it would be great.
