Hey guys, new user here! :)

I'm wondering what my options are if I want to mix live and would like to use headphones. Is a 2nd soundcard required for the computer to be able to output a separate sound (for example, from the right deck) to my headphones, while the speakers play the sound from the left deck?

Yes, if you want two stereo outputs, you will need a second card. You could use a Y splitter, in the meantime.

What's the difference between those 2 options you just mentioned? What product would you recommend for the Y-splitter? I'm looking for something cheap, nothing professional.

Try this, then add 2 of these. It does not have to be these, but this is the way you can go. As you can see, there are other options that do the same thing. You can then change the sound card in config, select the headphone option in output. It will be mono, but you will get two separate players, one playing and one you can monitor.

sorry rick, wonder if this would help... nick take a look at this link it will help you understand one of the options rick gave you for linking up your mixer without a second sound card... http://www.virtualdj.com/blog/tayla/?category=2

Ah so essentially then VirtualDJ can split the sounds from 2 decks into left and right channel, and the result is mono in my headphones and mono out the speaker (out of each of the 2 connections from the Y-splitter)?

Two heads are always better than one, thanks for the link.
