Topic: First external soundcard - what to buy?

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi all,

I've been using VirtualDJ to play a weekly set in London every week and it's going well - but, in pretty amateur fashion, I'm still using only my laptop's internal soundcard with their mixer (i.e. only one channel, so can't hear anything other than what's playing).

It's high time I sorted this out. A friend DJ's with a Mac and has an Echo Audiofire 2 firewire sound card, which he's using with Traktor and works great. Don't have a Firewire port on my laptop, so thinking about buying the PCMCIA version of this as he reckons it's more reliable (less prone to crashing) and lower latency than a USB card.

I'm about to inherit an old analogue mixer to play with at home, so keen to sort out the soundcard situation as a step into a more professional setup.

Much appreciate your thoughts on the best next steps.

Cheers,
Russell

I just started my own topic today about the same thing, after browsing around various usb sound card's.

May be worth checking you my topic aswell, im going for USB even know my Laptop does support PCMCIA as well Ive heard not to good stories about PCMCIA cards and also I want to be able to move the card between computers and if I was to upgrade my laptop in the near future with a system with a different PCMCIA port I would have to go and buy another sound card.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Ashley. I don't mind spending a little more than the £39 for the Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 USB if there are genuine benefits (e.g. better stability, lower latency, etc).

Much appreciate any thoughts from the old hands.

You would need to purchase a copy of pro to use any of this hardware.

Who said this wasn't in the works :P Ive been DJ for a while just being using software like Winamp *yes Laugh*, ive decided to move onto something a bit more commercial, currently still looking around at a few and deciding which one to buy, as it isn't something I'm going to be able to buy all of them.

Decided would be a good start to get a better sound card than my built in AC97 codec Laptop one :P

Thanks

The ESI Maya44 external usb soundcard is a favourite to alot of user's on this forum. You can pick one up for around £75.

It has the input's and output's you will need if you decide to go down the Timecode route.
