As some people will know I'm going to buy myself a nice little 2 channel mixer for home use. I've fell in love with the Pioneer DJM400. It's just ideal for my needs, and I think I'll be buying one in the next couple week's after I've hunted down the best price
Whilst looking around I've noticed that all the Pioneer equipment is very expensive, I know it's all club standard gear and very highly rated, but my question is, does the equipment warrent the price.

Yep. I get what you are saying Terry. I've come from a vinyl background, and I've only been using software for a year or so.
When I played at a club a few years back, it had a Pioneer mixer, can't remember what model, but back then Pioneer wasn't so much the leading force in equipment, yes it had it's big foot in the door, but all of a sudden, since the development of software and midi devices the price for the Pioneer equipment has shot up.

I think it's a question of the product versus your needs, how much the money means to you, and whether you'll profit from it?
As for the DJM-400, good new price can be found in Germany: http://www.thomann.de
Ebay is also worth a look.

As said before it depends if you can & are willing to pay the money for it. Personally fort he price of the djm400 you can get alot better from a different brand such as Ecler.

personally i would much rather have the ecler over the pio at this time.

I would also have the Ecler over the 400. There are alot of mixers you could get for the price of the 400. Now if your ready to pony up the big bucks and get the 800, well now thats a different story. The 800 is my favorite mixer.

Jimmy if you are looking for a non midi based solution, check some of the denon stuff out, its not that bad I use the x500 myself its not a djm-800 but you can afford to take the wife out afterwards ;) if money were not important I would still prefer the ev05

Cheer's Jason, seen your setup, it's nice.
Going to have another look at things this weekend after reading what you guys have said.
I don't really want to go with midi, as it is only for my home use, and i'm happy with a "normal" mixer. Will check Ecler/Technics/denon again. Once again cheer's for your help guys.

Pioneer cd players: solid and reliable
Pioneer mixers: flimsy and overrated...
My two cents anyway, from personal experience...

Flimsy and overrated? Maybe you haven't tried one of the newer Pioneer club mixers...

Well can honestly say I havent tried those two, my experience has been with a handful of DJM600s - in particular the one in the club where I work which is under a year old, and has at least one knackered channel already. I just reckon there's more solidly-built stuff available for that kind of money, I get the feeling you're paying for the name there...

I don't like Pioneer mixers. The ones I've used in clubs should never have been installed in any club. Too much fancy stuff to go wrong, I'd rather have better quality faders than that stupid orange effects button. The one I've used has a rotary mic gain, and no on/off switch, so you either have to guess the exact position when you fade up the mic, or leave it on and get feedback etc. I don't want a switch on my Mic, I want it on its own fader channel!
Fortunately, I haven't found many clubs stupid enough to install them.
Give me an old Formula Sound PM80 any day of the week! :)
