Ok I was thinking about getting rid of my MK2 and getting a turntable set up with mixer. The Numark battle pak. Now if I upgrade my ver to pro can I just buy the timecodes vinyls by them self or do I have to get the Numark virtual vinyl to play MP3's? Or is there a better soundcard out there? I been hearing alot of good things about serato, now is that better then Numarks? Please help me out trying to get a good but cheap setup...

The battle back is a good place to start , ideally you should get the VV package as it is a very high quality sound card , the vinyls and the pro VDJ software branded.
But it depends to what level you would like to take this if you are a pro DJ or aiming to be one i would go to VV , but if you are looking for a solution you could get a maya 44 usb or a u46dj and upgrade to VDJ pro which would give you the pro power and room to expand.

The VV interface is hands down the best for TCV on VV/VDJ. It has hardware bypass (that works without power), three stereo outputs (one for each deck, and one for the sampler) and very low latency. Soundquality is superb, it's rock stable, neat, solid and good looking :-)
However with the serato SL1 u have te option to test out Serato as well, which is a pretty major advantage (get to see what the fuzz is about). I do however see some posts here and there with people having issues with latency etc with the SL1 with VDJ. Also the SL1 only have two stereo outs, so you cant have a separate channel for the VDJ sampler. It does however have a mic-in.
I'd say it's a close race (if you can get any indication the SL1 works well/low latency with VDJ). I went with the VV package, but I could just as easily hav swung the other way.

OK so if I were to go with the cheaper of the three since im going to try to be a bedroom dj, and get the maya 44 usb or a u46dj soundcard, this combined with the timecodes (- VV) should work?

Yes, you will still need the pro version 5.07, to have full use of the Timecode feature. And the timecode's are available from the site.
Plus you will get a discount, when you purchase VirtualDJ as you own the mk2.

Good to hear. But have another stupid question... Why would I need another sound card when my computer already has one. Will my computers sound card work (with bad latency). Would I be using two?

Because you need a soundcard with 2 stereo ins & outs. Are you using a laptop or desktop? If using a desktop I recommend a PCI card like the delta 1010lt, you'll have much fewer problems that way;^]

Your pc soundcard hasn't got enough input's/outputs.
When/if you are going to be using timecode's you need a soundcard that has 4 inputs(for the turntables) and 4 outputs( to go out to a external mixer), BTW the herc mk2 has, i use it with timecode.
Then you config VirtualDJ to suit the setup.

Yeah going to use desktop. So I will look into getting a delta 1010lt PCI card so i dont have any problems. Or something along those lines so I can preview and sample my music before playing. Now I just need to get the TC vinyls and SC and upgrades. I will figurfe out all the inputs/outputs when that time comes. Thanks for the fast response and the expert help.

Why don't you just use your mk2 as a souncard, like me. It will save you £££$$$'s.
It's good enough.

Well my latency is bad with the MK2 so I wanted to upgrade to a better sound card so I get better response and better sound quality... Thanks for the advise though trying to do this the cheapest way I can.

The delta 1010lt is a mighty fine choice, and it costs about the same as the u46dj. You will have to change a registry setting for VDJ to get it to work right, but it's not hard to do, it's just to change inputs to 1/2 and 3/4. I've used mine in 3 channel mixer mode with timecodes & had very few problems, as opposed to USB which can be very troublesome with IRQ conflicts. The reason is all USB ports on many computers share the same IRQ, and often puts it on the same IRQ as the graphics and internal sound card. The first slot I put my delta in however was assigned to an IRQ all by itself, excellent response and latency. Good luck, the delta is definatly very timecode friendly;^]

No problem mate. Whichever you go with it, it will still cost you ;)
but it's worth it.
