I just thought I'd ask how some of you guys control the Audio+Video mix, when mixing music videos.
Do you transition both the Audio & Video with the crossfader, with a midi controller/mixer?
Or do the Audio mix on a traditional mixer, whilst fading over the video with a midi controller/mixer?
Or use a midi controller/mixer for audio with the channel faders, and video with the crossfader?
I wont try to list every method, rather I'd be interested in knowing how you do it?

I'm not long into videos, but at the moment I'm using mixer for audio and keyboard for vids...until i can find a way to get both going at the same time...:o|

At the moment, I use a non midi pioneer mixer (909) for audio and a midi component (griffen powermate) for video crossfader mix. I'm considering a full midi mixer but haven't yet decided on which one.

Personally I use the controls of the Ecler Evo 5 for to control the audio, and the crossfader is also providing MIDI data to VDJ to control the video crossfade, as well as the audio on the mixer.

When I work with a dac-3, I use the boggis mapper, which has the SHIFT-LOAD shortcut to auto crossfade the video to one side or the other when I'm ready to do so, or SHIFT-MIX NOW to corssfade in to the middle.
Lately, I've got a Denon HC-4500 and X-900 combo, currently running in midi mode, so I use the crossfader in midi mode to fade the video.

I use a seperate audio mixer and use the video crossfade buttons on skin with the mouse (I use Formats VMIX 5.3 skin and SupaCons Video Vision Skin).

Simply put Bagpuss... what u need for now is a MIDI controller that is mappable can be used to drive any function in vdj........
There are midi controllers with crossfaders and assignable knobs levers ... it may be worth looking into this one
No need to use two faders.. or keyboard etc.. mixing audio... video linked to the crossfader

Only cost about US100 of course there are better and more expensive options. But this is the one i use.

Thanks again for the responses.
I think I'm comfortable using an external mixer for audio, and the cross fader on my VCI-100 for the video (it's heavy duty so you can really hit it from side to side).
As the VCI feels similar to a regular hardware mixer (with slightly smaller knobs than most mixers) I would be more than happy to use it for both audio and video transitions, and that would be the easiest and most practical method, but the problem with working this way: Internal EQ’s, Gain and monitoring, need I say more?. Because the internal mixing experience had been previously limited to low end controllers, that area of the software hasn't been developed to a professional standard, yet.

That is true.. Bagpuss but what i also do outside of VDJ is run my audio output into a small Mackie Board.. that i use to adjust my EQ and iron out any chinks that the sound may have.
I use the X-session exclusively to mix videos.... Having to use to different things for audio and video options... makes it a little bit harder to be more dynamic etc. I know the X-session is not the best on the market... but having something that crosses audio simultaneously controls the video transition.. is really way to go....
Ultimately i might get one of the NU04 Ecler Mixers that low_fat_al uses... but that costs a pretty penny.. $800 upward for a mixer is a lot of corn... gonna have to rob a bank for that one
You should really think about something that gives you the ability to control audio and video from the same cross fader....is a lot more dynamic in terms of video mixing
