Hey guys I was wondering if anybody has or started switching to LEDs. I ordered a standard T truss. I was thinking of getting two moon flower effects and at the ends just have those lights that move a design across floor. (Scanners). They have two versions of these lights. Regular bulbs and LEDs. Are LEDs brighter and do they really last longer?

LEDs last much longer, create less heat and use much less power. Also when an LED light blows you don't lose the whole ficture only a single bulbe at a time.
LEDs give off a real nice color too much better than using color gells.
But the best thing about the LED lights is that they use less power.
If you use 2, 500 watt par 56 flood lights to add color to the room you will need a 20 amp circuit and won't be able to plug-in any other lights or equipment in to that circuit.
With the LEDs you can plug in 4 or more plus your DJ equipment in to a single 15 amp circuit without any worry that you'll trip a fuse.

I just bought 2 chauvet minspots for my company, they are scanners with moving yokes, I've used them at a few jobs and I love them, The light my not be as bright as traditional bulb scanners but the light is much cleaner if you ask me, and obviously the power consumption is huge when your a mobile dj. You obviously dont have the luxury of having a ton of amperage all the time. My suggestion is give them a try, imho they are great lights that will quite possibly revolutionize the dj lighting scene. Best of luck with the new purchase, at under 400 a light you should look at the minspots. They are small compact and the light is so much different than the standard mirrored scanners. Til next time, Keep the tables spinin' Til i get there.

We have bought ( 2 Chauvets) so far and LOVE them for all the reasons mentioned above. We are slowly (too much invested now) going to fade out all our high watt intel lights. I predict the high watt lights will follow the path of the 8 Track, Beta Max, Pet Rock, and Milli Vanilli. :^)

I have the Revo III, 2 ADJ Spectrums and the Chauvet ColorPalette... Freakin Sweet. They hang about 18 feet off the dance floor at the club and light my whole floor (25'x25') with ease. The Revo III is an awesome light, even if you only run it in Auto Sound. And a friend has 2 of the VUE VI from Chauvet - those are pretty hot as well.

I want to know what LED bulbs to fit to a 24V 250W Abstract Twister 4 and a set of XP2's anyone have an idea?

Highly recommend REVO III. Great floor coverage. I can also recommend, although a little pricey are the American DJ 65B PRO LED lights. I'm 100% LED and love it!

A buddy of mine locally told me the LEDs are not that bright though. In areas were it is not completely dark. This true?

I dont find them bright enough to replace a 250 watt discharge moving head or scanner but to replace par cans i think they can't be beat. Low voltage and heat coupled with DMX RGB color mixing leads to some sick scenes that simply cannot be accomplished with the standard par can.
This was done with 3 led par cans. The colors changed throughout the evening via dmx control, something that a standard par can could not do.
When i mount these on a truss it gives the room a nice wash, and when i place more of them throughout the room on the floor at about a foots length away from the wall it washes more of the wall. Hope this helps.

I have 4 Chauvet 1's and 2 Chauvet Min Spots.
They are incredible (minspots) They are basically the same as the intimidator mini - but with a led bulb.
As for Brightness I find the ADJ stuff is Brighter than Chauvet. But Chauvet makes more lighting units that are DMX controlled

I run ALL LED fixtures at my shows (controlled via Chauvet DMX-7). I also work in retail (dj gear) so here's kind of an "insider's" guide to LED lighting...
The first advantage of LEDs over standard halogen fixtures is NO DUTY CYCLE. Halogen fixtures usually require a cycle time to allow the bulb, motor(s) and housings to cool (usually 15 minutes on 15 minutes off). Most LED fixtures are also rated for 100,000 hours of usage before the LEDs start to die out.
Additionally LED fixtures are much smaller and MUCH more lightweight than halogen. Think of this when your raising your trussing system or tripod t-bars! Many LED fixtures also feature a "power-linking" system so you can daisy-chain power for other LED fixtures! Almost all also have DMX ins and outs also.
I think that the actual BEAMS of light thrown by a hologen fixture (through fog/haze) seem brighter and more distinct. The LEDs can have more of a "laser" looking effect opposed to the smoother beams from a halogen fixture. If you're not running a lighting controller, you can link many LED fixtures (sharing the same number of DMX channels) to run master/slave in audio mode for stand-alone color and action syncing. Perfect example of this is actually in my system every night being a Chauvet Vue II and a Chauvet Vue VI. A sidenote...the Vue VI is a wide-throwing (110 degree beam angle) effect with a dark spot in DEAD center of the fixture (it's a pretty wild centerpiece). The Vue II is an LED moonflower effect. If your fixtures are mounted next to each other, the beams of the Vue II PERFECTLY fill the "hole" from the Vue VI! I love that effect, sorry so long! :-P
So that is my shpiel....
But my original reason for posting is actually to ask if anyone knew which MODEL USB-DMX device(s) are directly compatible with VDJ and how does the interface actually work through VDJ? I can't find info on this ANYWHERE!!!

The new Chauvet elan is the bomb and for a good price!
My small setup is 2 elan and 4 Wiedamark cans.
Larger setup is 2 elan, and 8 cans
I can also throw in one of the extreme wizards if need be on that one
After that it is all production. We can rig up to 20 moving heads and 30 scanners all with MSD bulbs.
The LEDS are cool for sure. The one thing you should avoid is facing your sit down audience with these fixtures. They are really bright from nearly every angle when looking at them. Face the ceiling or floor or even walls.

Please i need help on this...
I recently bought a DMX Controller (Stairville Master I ... http://www.thomann.de/gr/stairville_dmxmaster_i.htm ), because i dealed with huge latency problems using USB Dongle Interfaces and DMX Softwares. Anyway, i'm happy with my new equipment (problem solved) , BUT i can't really work with it because i miss a very important scene. My favorite chase (group of scenes) is when my Led Pars are flashing (white) for a moment every time there is a beat (bass), and then go black (off) waiting for the next beat to come (like slow strobe). When i was using the DMX software, there was an abillity to arrange the time (duration) of a scene. I don't see this in my DMX Controller. I guess i picked the wrong one. Is there another way to do this? I mean ... Flash - Off - Flash - Off etc. I tried to create 3 scenes like this and chase them but i did not get the right result (my PARs flashed every second beat (bass)).
Sorry for my poor English, please forgive me for posting here (off subject), but i prefer not to create new topic for something that covers only my personally needs.
Thanks
