If you mix with CD's or MP3's. Your fake, your not a DJ. Your NOT mixing anything, most DJ CD players and DJ software do the mixing for you. I DJ the old fashioned way. The way REAL dj's mix: Two turntables and a mixer. It takes skill, unlike the new digital DJ. Dont call your self a DJ if you mix with CD's or software. Bro

I just came from a bar tomight were the Dj (female) was using the TRICERASOFT Karaoke Software to "Dj", she would let every song or video play completely to the end, start the next song and talk inbetween every two or three songs. Her vocals were shy and BORING, she had NO flow, NO programming skill, NO mixing, NO crossfading, A LOT of her videos were copied right off MTV....by "Dj standards she was HORRRRRRRRIBLE....she may have well have been playing a playlist on one instance of winamp.......bottom line, she played non stop rap/hip hop her 21 year old trailer trash scumbag crowd of people apparently wanted to hear, she had over 100 people in a crappy neighborood bar where the biggest attraction is 4 beer pong tables in Glendale, Arizona on SUNDAY NIGHT (of course the 50 cent beers helped) and she was getting PAID
What's the point...........no matter how bad you may be, no matter what equipment software or media you use, no matter what "Skillz" you have or don't have....if you can convince somebody to pay you on a regular basis you area REAL ROFESSIONAL DJ....maybe not a REAL GOOD DJ or even a GOOD DJ or even good enough to be a BAD DJ, but bottom line YOU ARE by definition a REAL DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please people before you comment realize this post is in no way intended to impune Dj Pedster...it is intended to show how stupid and ignorant the D**K who's post he quoted is!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...So WHAT! No one should care what we carry/use to mix with! If I walk in with a Walkman and PC Speakers as long as the person paying the bill is happy that is all that SHOULD matter. Personally I like to put in the work and do the job! Do not allow anyone to tell you what is the best way for you to DJ! A big part of it is being your own person and developing your own style.

In one way is correct .. Now eveybody can mix without EARS - Only with Beatlock or Sync features - For me this are a Cheaters features - Is not about what are you using for mix , it´s about how are you using your Things - I love 2 turntables + mixer + Vdj (with no visual helps , no bpm info , no sync & no Beatlock , and I feel better ) - Somebody can ask me : why you take 1 minute for put 2 songs in syncro when you can do it in 2 seconds ? the answer is : because i never trust in bpm detencion by software and is better to do it by myself - But maybe I´m too old , so forget what Í said -

Ohhh, so Tiesto, Picotto and others are fake too because they use CDs???
what a looser, He should feel envy, jealousy, etc becuse he will be (if he is not already) compleatly obsolete. Im sure he doesnt even know how to turn a PC on, or how to cue on a CD.

Dj Pedsters comment about "fake" DJ's appears really wild. Would only be correct from his definition of a DJ, however, the "real" definition of a DJ is "a jockey of discs", ie, a disc jockey, whether its's a vinyl disc, a compact disc, or an mp3, it don't really matter. the word disc in the title originally came from the 45 or 33 LP record, which is no longer in use anyway. The word mixing is not included, that something else that came along many years after the term "DJ" did.

What upsets me is when other DJs pick at the people that use anything other than turn tables. I have never in my life mixed with turntables. I have been a dj for about 12 years now. I started when CDs first came out and now use MP3. I know I can mix my ass off. i have never used the beat lock because you can trust it.
The by product from technology making DJing easier is anybody and everybody thinks they can DJ. Here in Chicago, DJs undercut each other so much and it has made it that people don't want to pay money for an experienced professional DJ. When I tell people what I charge they tell me that they have a friend that will do it for $200 or $300 dollars. I tell them to call that person then because I will not lower my price. Later on I come to find out that the DJ they hired didn't have all the music they wanted, couldn't mix, sound sytem sounded like crap or played all the wrong music and ruined the party.
Botton line is it is the creativness and experience that makes a good DJ. Not the means they use to play the music. I can rock a party with 1 ipod if i wanted to (not saying thats a good idea).

The "real vs. fake" argument seems to be a common theme in vinyl vs. digital DJs. It's a shame, really. Work smart, not hard, I always say. Why mess with sliders and nudging when you can push a button to establish a starting point match that you can tweak by ear from there? It just makes things easier, it doesn't eliminate the act of mixing.
There are similar undertones evident in battles between manual vs. automix camps. Ultimately, however, individual preference will always dictate the method chosen. For example, I think automix is great when folks are eating or I need a bathroom break, but that doesn't warrant an attack from me on someone whom has decided to use it exclusively. I don't, they do--big deal ;)

Just to add, I sent him this thread so he can see your mixed views..... Also, by putting 'fake' in the subject, I was going by him and not me personally. Sorry if I offended anyonre.
I just thought people like him are narrow minded... and to add, if it wasn't for VDJ, I wouldn't be a DJ! :)

The real DJ plays the right selection of songs at the right time, mixed or not. Entertains the customers, (if there are any).
Does it matter what format is used to get the sound to the speakers? As long as it does so with quality and reliability.
This arguement is about music, we need ears to listen to it. Not eye's!

haha, my message for that dude is 'bring it on'. i will slam you on vinyl and turntables. there is very little validity in his argument, but there is a latent point about ppl using software to 'avoid' learning the basics which is a bit of a pisser. but anyhow, who cares cuz djs who have the skills _obviously_ have the skills.
even before the days of CDJS, the unfotunate fact is though, there have always been djs that cant mix. i remember one such guy when i was starting out in the late 80s who was extremely popular but couldnt beatmix to save his life. the crowd didnt care, it was his track selection that got him to the clubs. thats something also worth noting in the 'im too snobby for my laptop' argument

This old chestnut again, it seems to rear it's ugly head with annoying regularity!
So many folks seem to forget that beatmatching is only a small part of what mixing and DJing generally is all about. Manual beatmatching really isn't that difficult - anybody can do it with a litle practise. It's a mechanical "no-brainer" process, and not one that anybody should feel the need to get all snobby about. What sets the good DJ apart from the average DJ is how he picks the music and mixes the tracks together once they've had their tempo matched... something that CANNOT be done in a creative way automatically!
Would you think less of a master carpenter for using power tools to get the job done? A labour saving device like an electric jigsaw does not take away from the creativity and skill involved in producing the end product.
If your car has automatic transmission, are you "cheating" as a driver?
And yes, I use the sync button all the time. I could match the bpm the old fashioned way, but it would take longer, and would only achieve the exact same result, so why bother?
