Topic: Building a Desktop for video scratching, suggestions???

K, so far i'm in love with these small form factor case's. Theres 2 or 3 that i'm feelin, but thats the last part. Whats important is the internals. WHat I want to know is what sort of specs should I be shooting for, for a lag free trouble free solution? Heres what i'm thinkin...

CPU:AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ its a 2.8mh dual core, not too expensive, and runs cool

RAM:4 gig of 667, or 2 gig of 800 (Can you run 4 gb of 800 ram???)

HD:2 500gb sata

MOBO:??? Dunno, what ever works with what i'm doin

VIDEO CARD: Not sure yet, hopefully someone will chime in here and help me out with a good suggestion.

AUDIO CARD:M-Audio 1010lt (Already have it)

PROJECTOR/WHITE SCREEN:Have Absolutely no idea which one to get, or any specs...

If it's any help here's my spec.

I use it for video, and cannot, whatever I do, make it stutter, lag, or play me up in any way. It just works!



AMD Athlon 64x2 5600+

Radeon X1600 Pro 512 meg graphics card

2 Gig Corsair Ram @ 800 meg

500gig Sata Hard disk

ASUS M2A-VM Motherboard

EZ Cool 650w PSU

Silverstone TJ08 Case, Not that big, not that small. But has 2 x 120mm fans, one on front pulling air in, one on rear blowing air out.
This thing runs VERY cool.

I chose this case because it takes standard components, especially the power supply. So would be fast to repair should something go wrong.
Some of the cube cases have dedicated (hard to find Power supplies), not good when they go BANG!

Incidentally, the case you were looking at would have been second choice, the built in handle is the best! The only thing that put me off was it has quite a large footprint, compared to a tower case.

Some of the dj booths I work in, are a little limited for space. So upwards works better and is less likely to see my foot!
 
Cool, thanx for the responce. BTW, what do you use for a monitor, and what do you use as a case to hold all this stuff together in the car, or when you transport it?? I've bee nthinking of having atleast one flat screen(Nothing special, like a 17-incher) and maybe a second of the same style for a 'monitor' to watch the live video feed going to the audience. THat being said, the size of a normal cpu case is about the same size, and I could maybe make a case that fits all 2 (or 3) items in one case.... But then again, this is for a turntable setup, not a mobile setup, I would almost always need a stage to setup in (Kinda limited to where I can VJ, but its apart of my 'show' that I need my 1200s anyway, so i'll have the space under my table to put either case, I was just thinking in terms of portability, and "Handling")

I suggest Intel over AMD, Core 2 6750 is the best price/performance CPU right now.
About memory, you will have a problem, Windows XPSP2/SP3 or Vista 32-bit cannot see 4Gb, only 3. I know that Vista with Service Pack 1RC is working with 4Gb so you should wait to update OS to use 4Gb.

Yeap that's true. I use 4gb but it only show 3.12 gb..but its ok tho;)
