Since I don't think your question was fully answered I'll try to help. I have extensive knowledge about computers (and DJing). I know I'm new here but I'm not new to the game (28 yrs).

A computer (desktop or laptop) should always be handled like you're carrying eggs. Take your equipment in first then bring in the computer but do not put it on a dolly. Yes, laptops are designed to take more bumps than desktops, but they are not indestructable. It's just like a car. Yes, your car can travel over bumpy roads daily and survive. But if that same car drove only on smooth roads it would last longer.

Desktops give you the ability to upgrade/replace/add parts easier, disipate heat easier, and are usually much cheaper than their laptop counterparts.

Laptops are more portable (lighter & smaller), can take the slight bumps associated with moving it from location to location, and are quicker to setup.

I prefer a desktop but use a laptop. My desktop is my backup.

BTW, your memory can die in both laptops and desktops. Since laptops typically run hotter, I guess your failure rate may be higher there. I hope I didn't confuse the matter for you.

I guess pc better on heat, laptop better on bump management - I guess I knew that.....I am building a booth with wheels to hold 2 x pc - it would be a pain to carry them seperately and wire up pc compared to being pre-wired on the booth/dolly - thats why I thought of a platform with springs - I figured this would be about same as car seat ?? - mini shock absorbers - now were getting crazy :)

you could try to going with solid state drives, that way there are no moving parts to damage easier than spinning disks. very expensive though. that way the system drive which is bolted in the chasis is much sturdier, and you could carry data on an external drive that gets carried around in a proper pouch which is super-padded

im not sure the idea of wheeling pcs sounds to good to me though. even with springs, there will be jolting going over bumps on the road and closing doors and such. carrying it carefully is the most shock absorbant thing to do, the only thing extra is how you put it on the ground. if you're an airport baggage handler, forget it. but since you own them its like putting eggs in a carton.

just curious, what is the need for 2 desktop and 1 laptop? how many do you use at one party? 2 machines should be good enough for backup, 3 sounds like overkill and a truck-robbery waiting to happen.

1 main machine pc, 1 hot standby in case of main machine freeze pc, 3rd machine laptop in case a pc dies....happened once. Laptop also for demo.

Look in my blog and see what I carry in and out of the club, 5 days a week and mobile on the weekend. It will be four years old in June. Well the case is different, and I added a bigger power supply. Upgraded the video card once. Three internal hard drives, and two external. Wait till you see the new one I'm building. I roll it around in one of these. I have another case without wheels on top of that, and a laptop hanging from the handle. In and out of the van twice a day. I treat all my equipment as if they make money for me. The same way a Pimp treats his Ho's. Sometimes you have to get rough, but for the most part, with care. They don't make money if they are all beat up.

Smooth.

Nice wheels but your case will bounce and with those small hard looking wheels, it look like it will be a hard ride.
Good Luck
