Topic: Moving a scanned file?

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I have all my videos in groups of sub-directories by genre. If I BPM and cue point a file in one directory, then later move that file to a different sub-directory, what steps do I need to do in VDJ so the video, BPM, and cue point will be all recognized in the new directory?

Right click on song, click on move, choose folder you want.

Then everything should move across to the new folder with it, i.e. BPM and cue points.

Done it a few times with some tracks of mine.

Well, yes but then your windows directory structure does not match your VDJ folder structure. I'm like to do all my organizing in windows (on a different computer), and then bring that structure into the VDJ laptop. If I wanted to be consistent in windows, then what happens when I move the file? Would I have to re-BPM it and re-cue it in the new location?

If I have a large amount of files to move I do it with in windows, and it is fine,

I think as long as you don't change the name or the tag of the file or files you should be fine. Move a test batch of 5 say and see.

Just for a bit of input, I recently restructured my tracks such that they are organized by artist (finally!), and I noticed about 1500 or so that had become un-analyzed after the process - not bad given the number of tracks in the collection. What I did was create a filter folder (isscanned=0) and re-analyzed them. Everything's fine now ;)

When moving any files to a new location. The best thing to do is go under config and fix / clean the drive. This should relable the file location.

Oops! Forgot to mention that I did this first. Thanks for reminding me :)

FYI...
I moved a track to a different directory, and did nothing else. I opened VDJ and the track (with BPM and CUE data) appeared in the new directory. So that's good. I guess VDJ "monitors" the windows directory for new files, and checks previously written data for new detected tracks.

It might be a ball ache, but I would move a few files at a time, just in case

Better be save than sorry.

Yes, moving files can be done external to VDJ and it will 'adjust' accordingly. However, it is also a good idea to run the 'Check' utility on the DB after you have moved the files. Also, if you move files between drives then run not only the 'Check' but the 'Clean' on the respective drive's databases.

Always running 'Check' first, then 'Clean'. Also, after a 'Clean' there are some situations where you may get a 'Corrupt Database' on your next launch of VirtualDJ, no problem just run the 'Fix' utility. This problem is sometimes caused by the 'Clean' leaving artifacts of dead space that XML doesn't usually like.

Cstoll, your the Database expert.

This is of the subject abit but it's Database related,

I have some files on my external Harddrive that show up in a search, but all I can say is they are like "shadows" of files. When you try and play them there is nothing in them and I get a error. What is this about.

I hope you get what I mean.

If you still have a VDJ 4.x database somewhere (chk your My Documents folder), you might want to rename it. They tend to pick up "ghosts."

Thanks doc,

Yeah thats what they are ghosts, thats a good way on how to descride them.

I don't have VDJ 4.xxx. I only have VDJ 5, so it's only a few months old. When I come across one I delete it, but I might have 10 say or I might have hundred. I don't know.

When was the last time you ran the CHECK on your different DBs. And have you ever run the CLEAN ?

I try to do this regularly. I think it keeps things tidy and efficient.

So to summarize, if you move a file on the same drive, you should always run CHECK and CLEAN. And if you move it to a different drive, you will additionally need to re-BPM and re-CUE, correct?

The way I understand it, when you move files around, you should run check (for safety's sake) to align the database with the file operation. Then you run clean to get rid of the unused garbage left in the database. If you get an error the next time you open VDJ, run FIX.

Yes I have, Ran it on Sunday just gone.

Some of these "Ghost" files will not delete aswell, have to click to exclude them from my Database search.

This is my only issue with VDJ at the moment, If I try and load one of these files, I get the windows error message sound blasting though the speakers, and it's not good. Only had it happen twice playing out, but at home a few times.
