Topic: VDJ 5 Trial & Database issues

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi,

I am new to this software and just downloaded the trial to play with. I read something about possible database corruptions and would like to know
what files, beside my MP3, are to be backed up to avoid any trouble. I figured before I buy myself into Database trouble I throughly test this software.
Nothing sucks more than having to re-scan the HD, it may only take a day or two...

At this point I have no HW controller yet, but I am eyeballing the VESTAX VCI-100 as it makes a solid first impression. I am just an amateur bedroom
DJ and I am not going to do any live stuff with it. All I want to do is creating my own mixes for my own use, so the mix will be dumped straight back to HD.

So far VDJ leaves a good impression, I like it, seems great for even casual use.

Thanks VDJ Team

Hi There,
Virtual DJ doesn't mess with your MP3 files, so there is no chance of VDJ losing them (but it is a good idea to back-up your music files in the event of a HD failure). VDJ scans each track and stores that information in a "database.xml" file which you can easily back-up, VDJ uses one database file per HD (that contains music you use in VDJ).

(the database.XML file is located under my documents> Virtual DJ> VirtualDJ Database v5.xml. That's the default location on the drive VDJ is installed on.

I've been using Virtual DJ since 2003, and I can honestly say I haven't had a database corruption in VDJ for years, and if you do you can fix it internally with the "Database fix" option under the browser tab in options.

The Vestax VCI-100 is a product which I'd recommend, although it's not yet supported in VDJ (I hope it soon will). The VCI-100 is a pro level controller and doesn't have an onboard soundcard, you could get a Numark Total control (Natively supported & perfect for home use) and Pro level DJ soundcard (HQ outputs/inputs) for the price of the VCI-100, so that's something you may want to consider.

I hope this helps.

Hi Bagpuss,

thanks for your input, I am going to use some PCI optical TOSlink audio interface card for now besides a SB for monitoring. All my MP3 are 320k coded
so I care for good audio quality. So far I have done some experimenting with the HD recording out of VDJ and initially I was not to thrilled about
the sound quality until I figured the performance - quality slider was off a bit, then it sounded great.
If this works out ok, I may be considering some firewire audio interface as I am going to use VDJ with a SONY Laptop.

As I understand someone put a MIDI mapper for the VDJ / VCI-100 together, gas that been tested already here ?

Thanks

Glad to hear of someone else who appreciates audio quality, sure you don't want to be a working DJ? :)

I've not heard much about the mapper available on the website, but it can't be as good as having native support (which I believe is on its way soon).

Hi Bagpuss,

hehe, nah, to old 4 that :D Sweet, looking forward to the native support for the VESTAX.
BTW, nice playlist selection you've got, seems we are pretty much on the same wave length.
Currently I enjoying electro as well as house.

Anyway, is the PM available here ?

Yes it is, but I think (I might be wrong here) that it's disabled for non-licensed users, sadly.

So you better hurry up and get that license :).
