I downloaded last night the trial version of Virtual DJ and I’ve been trying to preview songs with headphones from one deck to the other. I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and aside from that I have an external Soundblaster Sound Card (Creative) …It’s my understanding that one must use an external sound card to be able to preview music, so my first question is: (1) Do I have the right sound card?? (2) If I do, what I’m doing wrong because I can’t get it to work…For now, I am just using a pair of USB Logistic speakers (No Jack output or input)….With these pair of speakers I can only preview the songs with one speaker while the other one plays in the other deck and vice versa.
Thanks
Thanks

you need mutiple outputs to preview and essentially an external mixer to go with it. your laptop soundcard is fine if it's surround sound (4.1 or greater) because you essentially have multiple stereo outputs. i find a decent external soundcard using 6pin firewire or (or cardbus sound card) is the best way to go with least latency. usb is too latent for my taste. sounds like you need a few purchases to get the system the right way

I have the Creative 5.1 - what you could do, if you haven't got the Herc Mark 2 is to use the Creative for "broadcasting" and the computer's internal card for the headphones - set it up in settings - first card Creative, second card the computer's one - output first card, headphones second card. Try it and let me know.
Computer's own sound cards aren't that good for "broadcasting" - but they aren't too bad for headphone monitoring and cueing - you needn't listen to the whole track - just the first minute or so to ascertain it's the right version or whatever.
