Hi,
I'm mobile dj and i'd like to buy beamer/proctor for showing videos. So far I have asked organizers to get a beamer to get full video gig. The problem is, that some organizers don't have beamer or does not want to use one because of not understanding how wonderful a video show could be like! So I think it is time to buy own beamer so I don't have to gig audio only ever again :)
So what is a good beamer for gig??
I have thought some requirements for specs.
- Very small, lightweighted and portable
- As big screen as possible on short distance. Sometimes there is a problem to set projector to get big screen. Probably only place is around 2-3 meters from the wall and bigger screen is better.
- High luminance / contrast (there is disco lights and smoke usually on the dancefloor)
- resolution 800x600 or 1024x768. I have mostly (95%) promo only videos which are fine for 800 x 600 I think. But still i have some HD videos (maybe 5% of my video collection) which could benefit better resolution. What do you think of this?
- Noise does not matter, Im not going to watch movies with it in my living room.
- vga input. I have vga cable.
- budget is 900 euros at most.
Have i forgot something important from the specs?
And most of all, what beamer do you recommend?

I'm also interested in Infocus IN12 model at same site above. It has better luminance, contrast and better distance/width ratio but still quite portable... Has anyone tried infocus projectors?

From my experience you will need 2500 lumens (or better) to have a proper image especially when you use smoke and other light effects.

I have to agree with superstom: 3000 lumens (3000:1 contrast) is the minimum to get aceptable results with the ambient light of a club.
I'm waiting for the LED technology to get good enough (5000 lumens min.) and then I'll switch!
