A friend of mine recently bought the MK1 mp3 console from Argos (UK) mistakeing it for my MK2 - he can't headphone preview as he has a basic soundcard.
1) Should Argos still be selling the MK1 console?
2) Should he get a MK2 or would it be cheaper to buy a soundcard instead?

The MP3 Console isnt really MK1. MK1 is an old version of Hercules.
Mp3 console is the newer version without soundcard
MK2 is the better built model, with soundcard.
If your friend bought the wrong version, he sould ask the shop for return, and usually most countries have at least 30 days return policy. If he can return it, he can change it for MK2 if he wants, with the extra cost of difference.
If there is no return policy, getting an external USB soundcard would probably be best, any decent USB surroundcard would do, for prelisten and main out at different outputs.
