Topic: One Question for Numark VIP about Total Control

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

From what I understand there are some Numark VIPs in this forum. It seems that you are all waiting to give additional details about the Total Control until the release, and that is fine.

I would only ask one technical quesiton about it, in hopes for an answer. Does the Numark Total Control require USB 2.0, or is USB 1.1 good enough?

Reason I ask:
For whatever reason, my Laptop, HP ZE4430US, with a Athlon XP-M 2400+ CPU, 1 Gig of RAM, a 100 Gig hard drive, and so forth (I upgraded the RAM and hard drive) only has USB 1.1. It has one PCMCIA slot, which is where my Audigy 2 card currently resides. The built in sound card is unacceptable. So hence, the only way I can get USB 2.0, is to dump my sound card, which I am unwilling to do, as the built in sound card sucks, and is only 2 channel (right+left).

I would suspect that USB 1.1 would be good enough, since the Total Control isn't trying to do a built in sound card as well, but I would like to ask and make sure, as I am very excited about this product. I have been waiting for my tax return to purchase Virtual DJ with, and this looks like a very good way to get the program and a controller at the same time.

Please let me know on the USB issue?

Thanks again :)

I'm going to ask because i don't remember

Thank you much. I am crossing all my fingers and toes that it will work okay with USB 1.1, as it is the best layed out controller I've seen, in my opinion.

The only other thing I could ask, is for them to sell me one today...LOL... ...but if I have to wait, I'll wait it out till April...ugh.

Just to bump this question up, please someone who knows, answer this question. Is the Numark Total Control going to work okay with USB 1.1?

Cant see any reason for it to need usb2 to work.
So guessing it will work fine on usb1

But it needs confirmations from Numark, I'm not 100% sure

I will have the answer soon ;-)

Actually I was wondering after reading this thread...

Do the Total Control pitch sliders work on 128 steps like a DAC2 or 256 like a DAC3?

Guess the same question would apply to the DMC2

Hey, if you want, you could send me one, and I could test it for you with USB 1.1, to see if it works? <wink, wink> I'd even pay for it to test it too... (as long as I could get a refund if it doesn't work with USB1.1.... )

hehe... I know, I'll have to just wait like everyone else...

Well, Numark finally responded this morning, with this:

Dear Valued Customer, I would strongly suggest USB 2.0 Thank you, Matthew Rapoza

From that, unless djcel tells me something different soon, I guess I'm screwed. I don't imagine installing a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card, and then plugging in a USB 2.0 sound card and a Numark Total Control that also requires USB 2.0 would be a swell idea.

It surprises me that the Total Control would need the full bandwidth of USB 2.0, but I also concede that my laptop is probably one of a very, very few number that is as fast as it is, but only outfitted with USB 1.1.

If I just had one more PCMCIA slot, it would be no problem :( But I'm not willing to removing my Audigy 2 sound card and run sound of the crappy half-duplex built in sound, it would kind of defeat the purpose of the controller. Perhaps I neeed to take another look at the Hercules MKII, as it's sound card is built in, and supposedly people have had reasonably luck with it... but crap!! I like the layout of the Total Control so much better!!

thats probably just a safe answer.

the data rate of MIDI is next to fuck all and that works fine for controllers. midi is about 25 years old now and controlers these days are stil using it. "Why?" i hear you ask, because thats all they need, its just a couple of faders that go between 0 and 127, numbers this small and a couple of lights on and off is not going to be too much for USB 1.1 to handle. hell a 36.6kbps modem could deal with that

The Total Control and NuVJ are USB 1.1 devices at their core. No need to go any faster with MIDI.

The pitch sliders are 128 positions.

Thanks Chris...

There you go guys, official answer from Numark corporate :)

Thanks Chris, that is great to hear! Now go give Matthew a whoopin for me...LOL. He had me looking at Hercules again, ugh. No disrespect to Hercules users, just the layout and size of that controller don't agree with me... :)

Chris, if I might ask one more quesiton, what is going to be the upgrade option, if a Numark Total Control owner like I plan to be, wants to upgrade to the full version of Cue?

If you can't answer that question until release, that's okay, I'll just wait. The answer you gave me is already a big relief :)

Now I just got to pass the next 25 days nervously waiting...hehe.

I hate to be a bother again, but Zzounds has on their website that they will have some in on May 19th, 2007. It's not going to really be that long before they are released, is it??? I had heard April, and was hoping for the 1st day of...LOL..

If anyone knows, I'd like to hear...
