Hi guys, I downloaded the trial version of vdj and i want to continue playing around with the software. Im willing to buy vdj pro, turntables and a mixer. However, i have no idea on how all this stuff works, i think i can manage to hook up the turntables and speakers to the mixer, but how does the computer hook up to the mixer? or is it the turntables? USB, or is it MIDI?

I plead ignorance, im not in the dj bussiness so i dont know the technical terms, so pls use simple to understand words. Thanks in advance for the help.

Also, the time coded vinyls, only the ones for sale on this website will work or can i get them when i buy the equipment?

Let me get this straight, i need DJ Console Mk2 OR two soundcards? This means that the computer is not directly connected to the mixer or turntables?
 
 
Correct the computer does not connect directly to the mixer and turntables.
The sound card must provide a stereo input of the TT signal to the computer - so at minimum you would need 1 sound card to support 1 TT. Now there are alot of sound cards/devices that provide 2 stereo inputs, so you don't necessarily need 2 sound cards.

If you look at all of the computer based DJ applications that support timecode vinyl or CDs, this is how the magic is done.
Serato - SL1 and SL2 built by RANE/Serato
Torq - Connectv device
FinalScratch - FSHub
VDJ - off-the-shelf - user choice

edit - yes, BCD2000 search the forums and you will find alot of threads from configuring and use.
 
ok things are starting to make sense now, however, i talked to one of the guys at the store ad they dont seem very impressed with hercules or behringer or vdj, but they did say that hercules is a better quality than behringer.
They were plaing aroud with a xone 3d( $3000 ). now they suggested that if i get a behringer that i use the software provided, they say it has full compatability with the hardware, however i see the same functions. is it the same with hercules? also hercules is nowhere to be found in the city, just bcd2000 and xone 3d, hercules will be available sometime in january at the earliest.

 
 
I am not a BCD2000 user so other than the info you find in the forums is all I know. I know alot of people have had mixed results in using the BCD2000. I don't know of anyone that has the Xone 3d so can't comment there.

Sorry you hit the end of my advice on your situation.... I will tell you that one of the difficulties in VDJ is it's versatility. Why do I say that -- it's because you do have so many choices of things you can use with it. You look at all the others and a majority of them you almost don't get any choices. I mean sure they do support other things but to start with you have to have their sound card and/or their controller. VDJ is totally flexible, which can be the hardest thing to overcome.
 
ok, this guy sounds like he is just starting out, xone 3d is not the equipment for a newbie

Do yourself a favour. Remember this Formula for people just starting out....

A $3k mixer is not something for a beginner - the salesman should be shot.

a simple two channel mixer and turntable set up will do you fine.

and a pro qauilty sound card that will allow you to read the timecodes

other than those peices of gear - read the specs for VDJ, browse the forums and you'll be able to figure it out.

Hello again to everyone, i had to put my djing plans on hold for a while, but recently ive gained the possibility of trying it out, now since i dont have a boatload of cash to give this a run, ive been looking into buying a couple of Numark TTusb, i realize they are not the greatest but its probably all i can afford right now, but my question is, how would i connect these to my computer through usb or do i still need a gigaport external sound card?
 
yes i believe you stil need an external sound card...
 
im sorry i keep asking questions, i just bought a new laptop and i rented a couple of turntables to try this whole thing out.
I have the trial version of this program and a friend let me use a Hercules DJ Console RMX, im having fun with it its pretty cool but one side, the right one when i try to scratch the song always goes forward even when i turn the record backwards. the other side goes back and forth i think this side is normal...
 
like i suggest with anyone starting out.... if you have laptop get software next..... reason being if you get all this equiptment based on software and then dont like software you invested a lot....learn the software cause honestly you can learn to mix without controlers
 
a few questions... sounds like the soundcard is receiving an accurate signal...

1 what records are you using?
2 have you checked that your cables are color matched? (Turntables to RMX)
3 Have you tried the auto config feature?
4 are you sure the cartidges on the turntables are securely fastened to the turntable?
5 have you tried playing regular records on the turntables to make sure the cartridges are on good condition?

Your questions started in 2006, and it's now 2008(9) you're missing out on a lot of free stuff if you register your serial number.
