Virtual DJ as you know it today started before Atomix bought it...
The software (pre atomix) can be seen here:

Some may recognise similarities between the original, and the first default Atomixmp3 skin ;)

That's really interesting! I've used AtomixMP3 since on of the first versions was released. It was a big step up from crossfading between 2 winamp players. :) Do you have any more history lestons for us, dj-in-norway?

It all started in ENST and Ecole Polytechnique in France ;)
Some guys made some cool app called Virtual-DJ. This was back in 1999-2000 or before.
The intention was to make a small app that could mix mp3 audio files in the familiar way djs do.
Then some smart guy known as Stephane (our Godfather... hehe) bought it and startet Atomixmp3 in 2001. He comes from the same school of signal processing and computer programming as mentioned above.
Later on, they decided to go back to the original name when releasing the more pro version of Atomixmp3, so its today called VirtualDJ... ;) Year 2003.
Then late 2006 came Numark version of the software called Numark Cue and a package called Numark Virtual Vinyl.
(short simplified history... hehe.. )
