由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

HELLO FELLOW DIGITAL SPINNERS

BEEN USING VDJ FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS NOW AND IT'S STILL KICKS BUTT!
QUESTION FOR YOU ALL: HOW DO YOU ALL DEAL WITH THE HEAT THAT YOUR LAPTOP GENERATES?
I'VE BEEN ELEVATING THE LAPTOP IN ORDER TO LET THE HEAT ESCAPE BUT I'M INTERESTED IN WHAT SOME OF YOU OTHER DJ'S DO? LOOK FORWARD TO ANY INPUT YOU ALL MIGHT HAVE.

ROCK ON

I've experienced laptop cut outs because of heat!
I had this problem about a year ago and I couldn't do any gigs because of it. The main reason why a laptop might overheat would have to be because it has a desktop CPU (mines a 2.6ghz) which is great for a laptop in terms of power, but this produces much more height than the laptops which feature "Mobile technology" or laptop chips. Sure it wasn't completely due to that, it was because I'd had the laptop around 2 years (then), and too much dust had goten on the inside and the laptops vital componants were no longer getting a fresh cycle of air, this causesed increased heating. The laptop would completely cut out after the CPU had been high for more than say 2minutes, for example: I could only scan about 5 tracks in VDJ before the laptop turned its self off!

The solution: Internal cleaning, go into a laptop specialists and refer to this and they'll know what you mean, it's a cheap job and only takes about half an hour to do. Alternatively but less recommended there are "Do it yourself" kits you could order from the internet (which are pretty cheap).

What wont work: The dust which settles on the inside is known as Micro dust, generally unless in extreme cases this dust can't be seen (hence micro), using a hair dryer and blowing cool air into the laptops vents will NOT make a difference and wont solve the problem of high heat/cut outs.

Secondly I was also recommended by a laptop specialist to elevate the laptop, so I added these little legs:

Laptop elevation allows for a better and more free flow of air, which aids your laptops onboard fan in keeping things cool, causing overheating and cut outs to be less likely.

An external fan was something I considered although the man I spoke to didn't recommend these, as it's better to attack the route of the problem first and foremost (which in this case was dust), and it's actually a very common problem among laptop users, and buying an external laptop fan in this instance is a mistake as it doesn't solve the problem directly, it asks more like an environmental aid. Although once the route of the problem has been fixed it wouldn't be a bad idea to add one of these to be super safe ;).

A very good suggestion. If you work in a smoke filled environment, or you smoke, your problem is doubled. I clean my desktop every month, with an air compressor. Those cans don't do it for me. I also tighten my motherboard screws, and re-seat my PCI cards, because I set up and take down, twice a day. My partner uses a laptop cooler, and it works for him.
