They are "option" buttons, like the capslock on your keyboard : you can actually map 3 actions on every button/slider/wheel :
Action 1 : button
Action 2 : Button + "caps1"
Action 3 : button + "caps2"
Action 1 : button
Action 2 : Button + "caps1"
Action 3 : button + "caps2"

In total are 4 action for any buttons, sliders and wheels because XP10 have 2 buttons for shift.
Action 1 : button
Action 2 : Shift 1 + Button
Action 3 : Shift 2 + Button
Action 4 : Shift 1 + Shift 2 + Button
