I cant get vob files to play on vdj - i convert them to mpeg and they work fine but quality is a bit lower

Do you have vob as an extension next to video decoder in config\video?

in config / extensions i have VOB with "video decoder" next to it
when i load VDJ i get message "Direct x driver error" but all works ok except playing VOB files
VOB files, ripped from smartripper, play just fine on power DVD etc.
they try to load onto turntable of VDJ but give 'error" instead of song name

Try setting vob to "Windows MediaPlayer Video Decoder". This is what I use without any issues and I am able to play vob files ripped from Promo Only and from Store bought DVDs.
