The BPM algorythm works pretty good for techno and anything that has a steady, deep bass drum beat. But with a lot of pop and rock music (non-remixed album versions and radio edits in particular) it seems to have a lot of trouble locking on to the beat - the BPM drifts madly, from 65 BPM to 155 BPM and never really settles in on a number.
There should be a feature that would allow the user to assist the algorythm - maybe by clicking on the flashing BPM indicator - that could help it determine where the relevant beats to keep tempo are.
Also wondering if it would be possible for it to store this information and create an "intelligent database" so that it becomes "smarter" at finding the tempo on similar songs the more you work with it????

we have begged the team for such an integrated feature .. but nothing has come out of it.
Try winbpm (just try a google search), that'll do the trick.
