I'm using a Rane Performer with Virtual DJ Pro, firmware on the Performer is up to date.
I'm having trouble understanding how sync is supposed to work here. I've used rekordbox and Serato for years, and in both of those sync behaves the way I expect out of the box.
The problem: once I sync two decks together, they won't unsync. I'm pressing Shift + Sync to unsync, and the decks stay locked together. You can see it in the video I attached.
What I'm trying to do is sync both decks, move the BPM up and down together, then unsync and have each deck go back to independent pitch control.
Is this expected behavior, or is there a setting I'm missing?

How you expect it to work and how it is mapped to work are two different things, and that includes Serato and Rekordbox expextations, because Atomix made their own design choices for how the software behaves. As a result, they often try to map the hardware based on what is on the faceplate, but they do diverge where it makes sense for VirtualDJ operation.
Atomix provides hardware manuals for this reason - to describe how it is mapped to work. Take a look at point #36 here:
https://virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/rane/performer/layout/decks.html
Based on that, Shift + Sync probably does a pitch reset.
You do have the freedom to remap it to do what you want however.
Second thing - Sync is a one-time alignment operation in VirtualDJ, not an always on thing, so there is nothing to disable, sync wise, via Shift + Sync (which is probably why it is mapped to pitch reset). If you notice sync happens when you load a teack to a deck, then you have one of the auto sync options on (turn that off in settings). If you notice it syncs continually on playback to another deck, then you enabled beatlock (you can map that to a custom button and toggle it off).
