Topic: XDJ-AZ - laptop recommendations
I purchased the XDJ-AZ hoping to use it with my newish Asus gaming laptop (works flawlessly with the DDJ-1000).

Unfortunately once the XDJ is enabled the behaviour of the laptop indicates that it's struggling and there's audio drops all over the place. For the past few months I've done over 100 tweaks in an effort to improve the situation but not one move made any difference - the laptop just isn't playing ball with this controller.

Some of the things I've tried already:

Increasing latency (even to extreme)
A fresh install of windows (no bloatware)
Removed armoury crate, installed G helper
Updated the bios/drivers
Turned off core parking and all power saving functionality under profiles
Turned off USB suspend
Disabled unnecessary processes
Disabled audio enhancements
Given VDJ exclusive access to the XDJ
Tested it in airplane mode
Tested WiFi devices disabled
Tried numerous USB cables
Installed the latest firmware

This is the model and specs:
ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607PV-N3034W Laptop 40.6 cm (16") WUXGA AMD Ryzen™ 9 7845HX 16 GB DDR5-SDRAM 1 TB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Windows 11 Home

If anyone thinks they have the magic bullet on what's going on then I'd love to hear it, I suspect it's a DPC latency issue.

Do any of you have this controller? What laptop are you using successfully with it?

Disable core parking.
 

Core parking is disabled, I even tried using an app that forces VDJ off eco cores.

Latencymon after a while says "not suitable for Realtime audio" - but the processes involved are graphics and system related, essentially non negotiable stuff that I can't disable or uninstall.

This thread is the last throw of the dice before I go to the dark side (Mac) after 23 years on PC, I'd rather not simply throw money at the problem but I'm out of ideas.
 
I too am having the same major issues with my MSI Raider 18 laptop. Any app using USB audio devices, be it VDJ, WInamp etc etc has dropouts, stuttering to the point it's unusable.
Like you, I tried all the usual tweaks but to no avail.
ChatGPT sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole but almost got me there. It turns out, in my case, it was the Intel Management Engine #2 (in Device Manager) failing to "Enumerate" due to the ME firmware being out of sync with the BIOS! Yep, I don't understand that either!
Unfortunately MSI won't let me have the older BIOS so for now i'm stuck.

Can't you disable IME in the bios?
 

I think I'm going the Mac route as I can't gamble on another PC laptop.

Is migrating the database from PC to Mac a straightforward process?
 
After 20 years I switched to Mac. Not a single issue anymore.
Should have switched long time ago.

No issues whatsoever to migrate the database to my new mac.
I now use external SSD to keep all my files, instead of internal SSD, since Apple charge a lot for their storage.
 
If you keep all your files on an external, it's probably as simple as a backup and restore on the Mac, or manual copy as described in the Moving to a New Computer Wiki Page.

If you got files on the laptop itself - you'll have to do more as the filepaths will change when moving to the new computer. It would probably be easier to move those files to the external (if possible), from with VDJ, and then do the backup and restore on new computer.

The only thing I would personally be wary of is the external drive filesystem. If you use it with the default ExFAT filesystem on Mac, then imo that may be trouble down the line (Apple's support of that filesystem on MacOS is purposefully horrid - one unintentional force eject and you'll feel the pain). I would suggest changing the filesystem to HFS+ or APFS, as it has much better support.

I even have my streaming laptop (a Windows laptop) setup with MacDrive to read my external without issue (I always make a clone of the drive first though before attempting to use it).
 
I've tried moving to Mac several times over the years and it just didn't work for me. Having to tweak Windows machines to work properly isn't ideal tbough.
 
What was the hardest part/made it not work for you?
 
The fact I prepped on a Windows machine and then had to sync for use on MacOS. Also MacOS is not good for video with external displays and it also didn't play nice with my showXperss lighting software. Just really weird and pernickity compared to Windows.

My last try was the M3 Pro Macbook Pro and I got it to a point it was workable, but VDJ just kept randomly stopping for no reason at all. Would be playing music then boom .... the interface would disappear back to the desktop and the music would stop. Tried to diagnose it but got nowhere.

This is weird because that is a really good machine and that sounds like a crash with no crashguard restart (I would have reported that for sure).

I started my VirtualDJ journey on Mac though, so I'm not sure if it is a config type issue there.

I don't really use VDJ much with an external monitor, but it functions well enough for me with video output from videotracks.
