Ive been putting off some updates til after new years. So yesterday because of some other related windows stuff did a clean install to win 11 24H2, from 23H2, did all the usual things we have been doing for years, installed build b8472 and ran a gig last night with no issues at all. This evening soon as I started it, there was a VDJ update so I let it have it and that's where it stopped. It comes up, frozen, spinning blue circle, and if I kill it in task manager, the exe moves down below with the other processes, drops half its memory and freezes there and cannot be killled, even though its off the screen. Restart the pc rinse and repeat and I am stuck there now. Never seen anything like this in all the years I have run it. Some windows process is grabbing it and holding it. I ran the msi to try and repair it and got a 2203 error code, says Edge is using it. Tried everything I can think of and getting nowhere.
Open for ideas here........
Update: I went up into appdata local and had a look and there is no database xml there like normal. so ii made a dummy folder and moved the settings xml to it, years ago thats how we would return it back to defaults cause it would create new ones. Got the same thing on the screen but it did not create a new settings xml, so now both xmls are gone, and the skin and players are at pro defaults and completely frozen. No clue but this is definitely not normal

Can you try 8497?

If the VirtualDJ folder in appdata is not recreated, perhaps your VirtualDJ folder was still in Documents\VirtualDJ?

Ok another update, I always save the entire folder as a backup so I copied my settings xml from the last known good backup----and its running normal again. Something with that update did something to the settings xml, that's the only change, its showing b8490 now and running great.
SMH .......no clue
and thanks for the response, the normal vdj folder was there the whole time with all the other folders in it like normal, it was just there was no database xml, I should have mentioned that in the first post but it did not re-create the settings xml when I hid the current one and restarted it but as i say I went back to a copy of the settings xml from the build that ran on new years eve on 23h2 and its running fine.

I just discovered something new in this windows build that is causing issues. They seem to have a new search crawler of some sort. So after i wrote that last response I did some other things and restarted the pc and after a bit I fired up VDJ again and same thing, spinning blue circle that never goes away and its frozen but my controller is working the controls, if i click anyplace like to grab a file and drop it then it goes white and i get the not responding box, close it, restart the pc cause thats the only way to actually make it let go the VDJ whatever is running after the normal process dies, when it came back up I went straight for task manager. After about 10 seconds or so I started seeing activity on my music drive and when that happened I saw the VDJ icon appear out of nowhere in the services down below but the process was "Microsoft search assistant" with the vdj logo on it and its scanning my music drive. There is nothing on that drive but music files and the normal VDJ folder. It will not let me kill that process so I did a virus scan fast and it came up clean everywhere. When i brought up vdj i got a "the vdj database could not be accessed because it is being used by another process" warning.
It's not showing in the indexer and that has the usual 400 some files indexed and was not running. This is a clean install of win 11 24h2 with nearly nothing on it but VDJ and the korg midi driver, ran this rig for years and never had an issue like this ever. This has to be something new and this search is tied to edge somehow, and you can no longer kill edge in this build either.
If vdj starts and runs before this thing grabs the music drive it works fine. if not everything goes to hell instantly. I am not sure what I am battling at this point and I am ready to clean install win 10 but we all know where that's headed... I am open for ideas.

I tried that build and got the same results, i dont think the problem is VDJ, its whatever is grabbing the music drive and the associated files. as long as it has hold of that database file vdj is frozen and throwing warnings. so i grabbed an xml editor and set it as the xml default to get edge to let go of it, but this search assistant still grabs the D music drive after every pc restart and that seems to be the issue.
also before anyone asks I always remove any windows media players and zune and all of that even if only to stop it from accidental tagwriting, vdj is the only thing capable of playing anything in this pc--- so unless its scanning to find library stuff and ive disabled all that in privacy, its like MS is hell bent to "see" every file we have anymore with this build. I dont know what it is and if its legit MS software doing this then ill have no choice but to go back to an earlier build of windows. Either way this looks and acts like some kind of search crawler, even disconnected from the web its still going, no matter what i do and soon as it grabs the music drive then VDJ is frozen, at one point I had my software and documents backup drive on it and it grabbed that too but that's an external and i pulled it fast... i dont know what to think at the moment

You can right click the process in task manager and select open file location, which might make it more clear what exactly this process is. It's strange that it would get the virtualdj icon though
