In Hercule DJ Console sometimes the pitch of the music is increasing more and more without any reason, then when I move the job wheel the pitch is back to a normal speed.
I am using VDJ 1.07b

could be the controller itself, on the edge of a contact. if it is making intermittent contact, it could send the signal to VDJ to up the pitch

it will be fine if the team modify some functions on dj console for hide this problem . exemple :use beat lock buttom on the console for enable & disable the jogs wheels will be better i thing ( with backlit when enable) .

a dozen users have reported this problem on the french forum after I inquired about it (Topic: "jog wheels trop sensibles?").

I have opened a case with Hercules.fr support and will keep you updated.

I suggest that anyone who has this problem open a case on hercules.com support in order to increase visibility on this issue, which IMHO is a showstopper defect on an otherwise really good product. If, as some suggested, it's a sensibility issue, then maybe something could be done on the driver to account for such faulty signals comming from the controller (ie a non-human pattern, unless you're really shaky).

I just hope it's not a general post-manufacturing defect, you know the kind where the prototype was tested and worked great, but something got f'ed up on the assembly line...

knock on wood.

So, if you got one of these controllers and had this problem, could you just return it?

Hello,

We would like a few details concerning the problem:

- Do you notice the problem on only one or the two jog wheels?

- Is the DJ console connected to a powered USB hub, a standard hub or directly to the PC (tower or laptop)?

Thanks for the details,

Ben Duval

- Connected directly to the tower PC
- in both job wheels

Hi Mr Duval, thanks for following up on this.

Same here, it happens on both wheels (randomly), and my dj console is connected directly on a dedicated port on my notebook.

When it happens and the track goes crazy, just touching the related jog wheel gently stops the problem.

Thanks.

Nicolas

I have the same problem but I could swear it only happens when I accidentally move the jogwheel. Lets make the jogwheel scratch!

I had the same problems (had beacuse i hence sent mine back). The problem affects both jog wheels and i did not use a USB hub. It was reproduceable and has nothing to do with Virtual DJ specifically. I tested it by mapping key strokes to the wheels and opening a word processor. I was able to reproduce it getting "stuck" multiple times. It seems like the jog wheel gets stuck between two contacts or something and keeps sending data.
There is however another problem with the jog wheels. When spinning in one direction it will intermittandly send out wrong data. Say you are spinning it to the right (having mapped R to it) it will randomly transmit as if it was spinning in the opposite direction (lets say L). This will look something like this: RRRRRRRLRRRRRRLRRRRRR...
This is easyly reproduced and its always just one wrong command at a time.
If you need more info let me know.

In another matter, i would love to see a knob that can be assigned to a function thet lets you fade between both decks on the headphone monitor output. And of course, MIDI support for the controls (inlcuding the analog ones)

I have the same problems as others here. In the bundled VDJ (with update patch applied) I get the tracks randomly starting on their own (but very slowly and garbled, like moving the jog wheel very slowly) even if they are not currently playing. I also get buttons suddenly spewing out a whole load of false "presses" shortly after they've been pressed (only affects a couple of the buttons and only intermittently.

I also did what freedumb mentions and opened up notepad which clearly showed the controller automatically chucking out false positives, such as the jog wheels, even when nothing else on the controller was pressed. I saw very rare occasions where constantly spinning the jog wheel one way would get a single instance of the opposite data in the stream. That was more rare than the random data and the button problem (which was also apparent in notepad).

I have a similar problems and since it seems that almost everyone has them and they have been written here many times, I will not list them here again.

However, does anyone have any information about the fix, I think I read somewhere that Hercules is working on it... This is a very unfortunate bug in otherwise great product that almost prevents the usage (at least it can not be used "professionally" in a parties, doing a mixtape etc. now), I would very much like to see this fixed.

Hello,

We are indeed working on it and a solution should be available soon, but I don't have precise informations at the moment.

Here is what I know so far:
- last week, Hercules' canadian dev office phoned me to get details about the case I had opened (in which I refer to a/m topic too)
- earlier this week, a director at Hercules Sound and Video unit here in France phoned me, saying they had identified the cause of the problem and believed they had a fix for it
- they overnighted me a new dj console to test, and I gave my old one to the courrier to be returned to them (all this free of charge for me of course)
- I spent last evening playing with the new console and emailed them my positive feedback early this morning.

The new console I got was the same as the old one, with the exception that the jog wheels felt much heavier and tighter, i.e. much more solid.

Used all night with virtualDJ, it behaved perfectly: cueing was precise and stayed where you left it, no wobbling or trembling near the cue point, and especially no random crazy pitch bends in the middle of a mix. EQ knobs were more stable too, their related control widgets on VDJ GUI were still, when before they would sometimes shake a bit (not noticeable by ear, but might have invisibly consumed CPU power).

So they got my positive feedback via email and probably got my old console today, and they told me they would communicate on this forum as soon as they have something. It might just be one of the first production series that got a bit messed up, I don't know for sure. One thing for sure, I got the feeling they are dedicated to customer's satisfaction.

Hang in there, should be a matter of days before your problem is resolved...

Hi all,

We have observed that some consoles were produced with hyper-sensitive jog wheels. Under certain operation conditions this can lead to an unsolicited increase in speed of the music that is playing, by simulating the continual turning of a jog wheel, even though they are not in use.

This condition can be rectified by reprogramming the DJ Console in question which will stabilize the sensitivity of the jog wheels regardless of operation conditions.

Users who encounter this condition can return to us their complete DJ Consoles (console, cable, CD, manual ...) in the original packaging, so that we can reprogram the unit.

Please contact our technical support (contact details are available in your user manual) which will establish whether or not your unit is experiencing this form of jog wheel hyper-sensitivity, and will explain the procedure for returning your DJ Console.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and we thank you for choosing Hercules products.

The Hercules DJ Console Dev Team.
