I’ve had virtual dj on my laptop for some years now just as a hobby at home I’m thinking of getting a controller to learn more about Dj stuff just to have at home but I’ve read that the controller will only last for 10 minutes at a time while using the virtual dj program is this correct or can I use it as long as I want at home

That is correct
You need to buy a home controller license for VDJ to work with a specific controller
(or the full pro license - either one-time purchase or monthly subscription - to have it work with all controllers - but that is probably irrelevant here)
