I've ticked early, but confused what to do next (sorry I'm completely new to controllers, I just bought this one yesterday!)

If you checked the "earlyAccessUpdates" box, then restart VirtualDJ and wait until it downloads the newer (early access) version.
It will then prompt you to update.
Update, and your controller should come to life.
