One of the (many!) standout fantastic features of VDJ is it's ability to work with such an extraordinary wide range of controllers....

Just wondering what the future holds for VDJ if Standalone Controllers, like the Denon Prime 4, with inbuilt onboard software become more common or even the norm? What could the Atomix solution/response be? Is it likely that such controllers could be 'cracked' and a version of different software uploaded onto them for example?

The Pioneer ones may have some traction but Denon have a long way to go.

The Prime 4 depends on both Engine Prime getting s major update and of course the on board firmware being up to par. The fact they're already saying some "features" won't be added until after release (not sure which year) doesn't give me a warm feeling inside.

Based on previous experiences with the MCX8000 I wouldn't hold my breath. VDJ saved that controller.

I would doubt the on-board software could be cracked and even so what's the benefit to a 3rd party company in doing so when it has midi support?

Hi Kradcliffe,

I suppose I was thinking that if the controllers stop having usb Midi support, then presumably it would be necessary for 3rd party software companies to 'crack' the hardware (not software) in order to upload their software onto it in order for it to be usable with their software? If that is the case and it proves difficult or impossible to achieve, and that form of controller becomes more widespread, just wondered how that might pan out for VDJ...

Or the controllers won’t sell as well as the manufacturers would like and that will sort things out.

Philw maybe, but if the convenience of that kind of all in one controller does take off, I just wondered what the strategy might need to be....

They are fine for Djs who want basic features, but for those of us who do video and many other things they will never be good enough.

I haven't used a Pioneer standalone but Denon's Prime management software is abysmally bad and also the on board software has little customisation.

Using standalone on the MCX8000 is fine for the odd few tracks but I couldn't do a whole gig with it.
