im concidering to go follow my dream and become a mobile dj but i have a question for you guys first. As a pretty unexperienced young man i don't know much about watts on my system compared to the crowd, right now i have a soundsystem that runs at about 1100 watts, will the soundsystem be able to do fine at gigs with around 100 people? or will i need to up my game on the sound front?

It's not the watts, it's the SPL - i.e. how efficiently your speakers turn watts into sound (in Decibels per Watt).
A really bad 1000W system could output 75dB. An efficient 100W system could output 130dB.
Typically, cheap speakers have low efficiency. The more you pay, the more likely you'll get an efficient system.
Plenty more info via Google...

should add that my sub has a max output of 126db and both of my speakers come in at around 120db

What makes you think that your system wouldn't cope?
It would be far easier if you just named the makes and models of what you're using...

Sound is very subjective!
You will be fine with what you have for 100 people. You may find after a gig or two that there are things that you would like to improve on in equipment and performance. I have many times had two people approach me as DJ one ask me to turn it down and the next ask me to turn it up. YOU will have to determine what is enough or not enough for the gigs that you do. Regardless please start with professional grade gear.

....but we don't know what he's got! All we know so far is that it's a pair of speakers and a sub.

Come on I’m sure he’s not talking about monitor speakers with a sub Lmmfao!!
I’d use my 15” JBL powered tops with an 18” JBL powered sub.....

Why not? I've got a pair of KRK Rokit 5's with a KRK 10S sub in my living room.

It also depends on the people, and type of party. You will find that your requirements will differ if they are 60 years old and above, at a retirement party. It will be a lot different if they are sixteen, and you are playing club and hip hop. People that love dancehall will need a lot of low end. You will also have to take into account the size of the room, but your main focus should be on the dance floor. Which brings up another scenario, maybe it's just background music for 100 people. The bottom line is, if you have a quality sound system, you will be able to handle all of these affairs. So, tell us the name and model number of your speakers, and we will be able to give you our professional opinions.

And don't forget crowd density
100 people spaces out in a large room is a lot different to a 100 people crowded right in front of your speakers
Without specifics we can only give guideline information
With a reasonable quality of speaker and 500 watt Rms you should be fine for that size of venue
But do bear in mind that if you have a 1000w amp its probably only going to give that power driving an optimal load, probably at 2 ohms, if you connect it to an 8 ohm speaker, its not going to.produce anything like that sort of power!
Let us know what your giving with and we can probably offer more advice
